How I Make Worklife Easier

Some people say when you love your job, it wouldn't stress you out. While it is partly true, there are many factors that cause stress, not just your day to day workload. It usually builds up from something that irritated you in the morning, or the traffic on your way to work, or even your annoying officemate (or supervisor?) who's asking for reports even before you reach your desk. I've experienced it all.

After quitting my corporate job a year ago to get away from the horrible traffic, never ending reports, and a somewhat toxic environment, I switched to a home based full-time job. While my workload is easier and I only have one boss to answer to, there are still instances in the day-to-day operation which I find stressful.

Here are 4 simple steps I do to make worklife easier:
  1. Dedicate every day to God.
    In Colossians 3:23, it says there, "Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men". When I work, I do it to glorify God. I always have this verse in my mind so I would be reminded that what I'm doing is for Him, and when that secures me, there is joy in what I do. I don't stress over things anymore,

    It's not a one-way street too. There is also a promise. In Proverbs 16:3 it says, "Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established." When I started dedicating my work to the Lord, I noticed that things are working out better for me. Things I didn't even think could happen, did happen, and I would only realize during my reflection time.
  1. Drink a cup of coffee.
    I'm not a big coffee drinker but I realized it does help me center my focus. I'm quite the scatterbrain and as a multi-tasker, I often end up not finishing anything at all which leads to stressing out. Drinking a cup of warm coffee helps me especially on days when I need to concentrate on a task.
  1. Listen to chill or party music to cheer me up.
    Almost everyone I know does this. Music cheers me up and gives me energy and pep to keep on working. I like to think it gives me focus too, in a way. It blocks out unwelcome distractions.
