Samsung Finally Rolling Out Android Nougat Updates

Samsung is finally rolling out updates for Android Nougat.

Though there are no specific roll out dates of Nougat updates from Samsung, but only the vague statement "first half of the year", Samsung started rolling out beta Nougat updates since January 2017 and they started with Samsung Galaxy S7 and Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge.

Samsung's official version of Android Nougat for the S7 and S7 Edge is currently based on Android 7.0, and not Android 7.1.1.

Since Samsung doesn't need to support Nougat updates for Samsung Galaxy Note 7 anymore (since it blows up on you are all recalled, and eventually ceased sales and production), Samsung Galaxy S6 and Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge got their update quicker this time. The update came sometime mid to the end of February 2017.

And as of current, Samsung already started rolling out Nougat for Samsung Galaxy Note 5, and it started with Turkey. And since Turkey is between Asia and Europe, expect that it will come to the global market really soon.

Few key updates of the Nougat are:
  • Slight UI changes
  • New calendar interface.
  • Improvements on device maintenance for optimization of battery, performance, security and battery usage meter.
  • Apps can now be put to sleep to save battery life.
  • Audio and video quality improvements
Android Nougat update is about 1.2 to 1.5 GB depending on the region.
