The title implies on what part of the Final Fantasy timeline this game falls under. Every question on all Final Fantasy 7 iterations were answered on this game. Yes, Before Crisis, Dirge of Cerberus, Final Fantasy 7 itself, and even the movie Advent Children were highlighted on this game. History meets fantasy, Jeanne D'Arc or better known as Joan of Arc, the savior of France and a saint to the Catholics. A strategy turn-base RPG that follows the adventure of the "La Pucelle" that was commanded by voices which she claimed came from God himself. The battle system is great and the effects and the sound is superb. Thrown in some Anime clips between the story and a very very unusual twist that made gamers scratch their heads in disbelief.
Mathieulh and Dark_AleX (who was on retirement) have dumped the PSP Slim’s NAND memory. They say their doing it for educational purposes only but I doubt we'll see some hacked firmware soon enough. The actual dump after the jump
Think of Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy and .hack, mix it and you'll have Brave Story: New Traveler. Pardon for comparing this game to these 3 top ranking games but this is the reason I like this game. A boy from another world using a sword that upgrades every now and then sounds like Kingdom Hearts to me. The multi racial concept (kitkin, waterkin, err goatkin?) and cinematic cut scenes sounds Final Fantasy to me, and finally the cross between the Anime / Novel and the Video Game is oh so .hack to me. You see, this makes this game a solid RPG. You get to collect tons of stuff and "Dark Arms" also known as ultimate weapons, You solve sub quests and battle birdbrawls using your captured goalfinch. There are lots and lots of things to do here and the battle system although menu driven is full of action. The only downside of this game is that random battles occur frequently and oddly enough, you cannot save on the world map. but overall this is one solid RPG
Jeanne D'Arc and Dragoneer's Aria, both are good role playing game, were released last August 21, 2007. Jeanne D'Arc is a strategy RPG and Dragoneer's Aria is a dungeon crawling RPG similar to Blade Dancer.
If you are a fan of the "Tales of" series, this one's a keep. You can choose between a male or a female "descender" and interact with "Tales of" character. One of my favorite is Stahn, I remember him as the lead character of Tales of Destiny and that brings back memories of the Playstation days The game is basically a dungeon crawler / grinding type of RPG with button pressing to execute actions or special moves / spells, which is, the trademark of the series. The voice acting is great and the bg music really makes you feel the game. Spend lots of hours grinding or mastering techniques, collect armor sets or just cook to your heart's delight. Yes, you can cook, forge, refine, create stuff that can help you finish quests or even save your arse during a fierce battle. The only chip on this gem is the repetitive quests that will suck all your gaming hours. Oh well, overall this one's a solid RPG
NekoMiMi, created DeSmuME that emulates Nintendo DS to your PSP. The emulation is kinda slow but that'll expected because it's an early version. Wait for updates and do hope that this project will reach greater heights. How to use? Rename your ROM to “test.nds” and place it in the same directory as EBOOT.PBP. Download it here
Note: Emulation has some legal issues. Nintendo states that it is illegal to download ROMs on the internet even you have a legitimate copy. You may want to extract the game image from your NDS game yourself but proceed at your own risk.
GameOPS does not condone the use of emulators and ROMs for piracy.
Here's one of the reason why Sony has not launched the PSP here. Piracy is so widespread and tolerated that my cousin has bought a PSP package from a well known mall unknowingly that it's already modified to play games directly from a memory stick. And you don't need to load any other third party apps, just load the games direct from memory. My cousin was buying his first PSP so he doesn't know a thing about it. When the saleslady told him that the package would include a lot of games, he immediately paid for it. Guess what, the games where saved in memory sticks and a DVD compilation.
You can see the PSP 3.40oc-a Custom Firmware in action in the video above. Just to clarify things, the Philippines may be a haven for pirated video games but it doesn't mean that the Philippines is the source of these. The custom firmware came from some guy in America and the games obviously came from the internet or from some compilation DVD from some Chinese or Malaysian guys. The only problem the Philippines have is the lack of laws to prevent the proliferation of pirated games.
Having trouble with devhook lately? Can't play that latest game because your emulated firmware is just 3.11? Fret not, here is a step by step guide in achieving that psp ecstasy. First things first. Why do we need to upgrade / downgrade your psp to 3.40E-A (Open Edition revision A)? Well here is why:
-Runs iso and cso without using devhook or any other umd emulator -Build in P.O.P.S. (Playstation One Portable System) plays PSX (playstation 1) images instantly -Updated software with camera and RSS support -Compatible with the latest games 3.11 and above -Runs homebrew applications even if your firmware is not 1.5
Get your PSP and flash it now!
Before we begin, make sure you understand the risks involve
PLEASE NOTE I WILL NOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE IF THIS CAUSES YOUR PSP TO BRICK
You must have a PSP that is capable of reading homebrew applications (i.e. 1.5 firmware). If you haven't downgraded it to 1.5 here's a guide
Next, download the AIO 3.40OE installer which can be found here
Run the installer on your computer and it will automatically save the required files on your memory stick (I suggest formatting it first), assuming your psp is connected to your computer via usb.
go to the Game section on your psp and then access your memory card. You will now see a new program Upgrade to 3.40OE-A. Before running it, make sure your psp has a 75% and above battery life, if not, charge it first. Flashing while connected to an outlet is not recommended.
If you already prayed and accepted the fact that whatever happens I still love Siopao Master. Run the program and watch it flash your psp to 3.40OE. The whole ordeal will run in approx. 3 minutes. After the installation, restart your psp manually and enjoy the benefits of 3.4OE
According to a survey conducted by Gametart in UK, girls who play video games (particularly Nintendo DS) have more sex that girls who don't.
It’s official – women who play video games have sex more often! Gametart, the UK’s largest online games rental company, carried out the survey throughout January to see how the recent influx of the likes of Pink PSPs and DS Lites would affect gamers’ sex lives across the country.
The results were surprising.
Of our sample of 200 women, those who played video games on average had sex 4.3 times a week while those who didn’t play games only had sex just 3.2 times a week.
Perhaps even more promising for gamers is the fact that many of the women that we interviewed who have only recently started playing games said that they now have sex more often than before.
Xseed Games released a dungeon crawler RPG that sucks the time in your life literally Yes you read it right, in order for you to advance on the story of this RPG, you need to grind all day and all night just to beat the hell out of that monster. Valhalla Knights is not a typical RPG wherein when you achieve a high level, it doesn't mean you can beat the crap out of the bosses out there. You need teammates to help in battle, heck having a healer in the party is necessary. The graphics are good, lightings and some effects attest to that. The sound is kind of tiring maybe due to the fact that you grind on the same place for a gazillion time. The gameplay is rather difficult for those new to the RPG genre. Customization is neat, you can choose a male or a female, a human, elf, half-ling, dwarf (which is by the way, human-sized in this game) a machine (that can only be accessed later on). There are lots of job classes to choose from, wherein fighter, priest, mage, and thief are available in the beginning, later on, anchors, knights, samurais and ninjas become available if you picked up a job card so your character can change to that specific job. By the way, the drop rate is like hell, getting a rare item took me an entire day. Overall, if you have all the time in the world or does not have a social life, this game is for you
Buying pirated PSP games here in the Philippines is like buying a candy from a store Piracy here in the Philippines is not legal, but hey, shopping malls out there tolerate these kind of businesses and the government is like sleeping their ass out over the matter. Take for example the picture above shows downloaded PSP games for sale over the counter.
They sell these stuff Php30 per game and Php150 per CDs that contain downloaded games. Heck they even have a list of the available games and you can also request a game not on the list. How cool is that?
Before downgrading, make sure you meet the following requirements: - Your PSP is not a TA-082 (If you do have this PSP version, it may result in a brick). - Your PSP hs been upgraded at least once
PLEASE NOTE I WILL NOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE IF THIS CAUSES YOUR PSP TO BRICK
1) Copy the folders downhelper and downhelper% from the folder 1.50 HELPER folder to /PSP/GAME/ in your memstick. 2) Obtain the 1.50 update and put it in /PSP/GAME/UPDATE in your memstick. Get it here ( http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/8 ) 3) Init the downhelper program. 4) It will dump your flash and some files from the updater eboot to the memstick. 5) After that, the program will exit. You can now delete the updater from /PSP/GAME/UPDATE 6) You'll notice that you have a new folder in the root of your memstick called "DOWNDATER". 7) That's the folder you'll have to send to a 2.50/2.60 to let him test the downgrade.
1) Copy the folder the DOWNGRADER/2.50/DOWNDATERTEST if you have 2.50 or DOWNGRADER/2.60/DOWNDATERTEST if you have 2.60 to /PSP/GAME/ in your memstick 2) Wait for someone with 1.50 to pass you a folder called DOWNDATER and copy it to the root of your memstick. 3) Init GTA and the eLoader (Search if you do not know how to install the eLoader) 4) In the eLoader menu, choose the downdater test. WARNING: the program won't output any display and any warnings, it will init the downgrader process inmediatelly. 5) You'll see that your memstick flashing. That means that your psp is being flashed from the memstick. 6) You won't see any type of output in the screen (this is for safety). When the memstick finishes of flashing, WAIT at least a minute, and then reinit your psp by holding the power button. 7) That's all. If all went right, you'll have 1.50. If it went less good, you'll still have 2.50/2.60. If all went wrong, you'll have a bricked psp(except in the case you have the modchip) Remember that you have accepted that risk. 8) If your PSP is showing up as v2.01, this is fine. Just use Wab Version Changer and change it to v1.50
Many Catholics and non Catholics alike know who is Jeanne D'Arc (Joan of Arc to us english men). Level 5 will relive that historical campaign of the Maid of Orléans with a twist of fantasy. La Pucelle as the frenchmen called her during that time, participated on the 100 year war of France and England. Branded as a heretic and burned at the stake on May 30, 1431, Twenty-five years too late, in 1456, she was declared both innocent and a martyr by the inquisition. It ruled that the original trial had been tainted by fraud, illegal procedures, and intimidation of both prosecutors and defendant. The "Maid of Orléans" was beatified in 1909 and canonized a saint on May 16, 1920.
Level 5's game Jeanne D'Arc that will be released on the Sony PSP on August 30,2007 (tentative date), a turn-based tactical RPG mixed with fantasy and history, Jeanne D'Arc is a promising title.
It has been a trend recently that most of the successful titles in the console market are being ported to the handheld platform. Nintendo and Sony are making their fans drool in excitement as some successful titles to whom most console gamers fell in love with. An example is Final Fantasy Tactics, a 10 year old game that was originally released on the Playstation last December 31, 1997 by Squaresoft (now Square-Enix) now being released on the PSP with multiplayer capabilities. Nintendo DS fans have their share of portable goodness, Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings is an "expansion" of Final Fantasy XII that was released by Square-Enix on the Playstation 2 console. Action hungry gamers need not fret. God of War: Chains of Olympus for the PSP promises a bloodfest jus like its console counterpart. As for the thrill seekers, Silent Hill Origins for the PSP will haunt your cold summer nights.
Buying a Nintendo DS and a Sony PSP is worth it if you see this lineup.
Philippine Star recently published an article why Sony has not released the PlayStation Portable / PSP officially in the Philippines. Sony Philippines blames the rampant piracy of the PlayStation games and their memory cards in the Philippines that Sony Japan decided not to officially release the PSP here. The PSP is currently available through import stores and the gray market.
Sony urged to state real reason for not bringing Playstation PSP to RP By Marianne V. Go Publication Date: [Monday, March 19, 2007]
Intellectual Property Office Philippines Director-General Adrian Cristobal Jr. criticized yesterday Sony Philippines for making it appear that Sony’s decision not to bring in its popular Playstation PSP to the Philippines is due to rampant piracy.
In an interview with The STAR, Cristobal felt offended at Sony’s insinuation that continued rampant piracy is behind its decision not to bring in its PSP product to the Philippines.
Cristobal pointed out that even though China is known to be more at the forefront of intellectual property rights piracy, Sony still chose to sell its PSP units there because of the huge Chinese consumer market.
Thus, Cristobal argued, Sony’s hesitancy to directly sell its PSP here in the Philippines is due more to lack of market rather than IPR piracy.
Sony Philippines president Hiroaki Kobayashi had previously told The STAR that the continued rampant piracy of its Playstation software is one reason why Sony Japan is hesitant to sell its PSP units in the Philippines.
Kobayashi said that almost all available Playstation software being sold in the Philippines are pirated copies.
Aside from its Playstation software, Kobayashi said, its memory stick for its digital cameras and video cams are also being pirated.
Sony, Cristobal further revealed, has not actually been coordinating closely with IP Philippines in helping crack down on its IPR violators.
Sony, like most other private IPR holders, Cristobal said, privately pursue their own enforcement and prosecution and coordinate more closely with the National Bureau of Investigation and the Philippine National Police.
However, Cristobal appealed to Sony and other recent vocal complainants such as Philip Morris and Levi’s International to coordinate with IP Philippines.
Cristobal noted that the complaints of Sony, Philip Morris and Levi’s appear to be part of a lobby to have the Philippines retained in the United States Trade Representative (USTR) watchlist as the Philippines is currently undergoing its annual review.
The USTR review, Cristobal said, started in February and a report is expected by next month. Cristobal is hoping that the Philippines would be able to "graduate" out of the list, but would not be surprised at the country’s continued retention on the watchlist.
What's funny about what Cristobal said is that Sony should coordinate with them to help stop the piracy of their PlayStation software. Coordinate? Sony doesn't need to coordinate with them, piracy of PlayStation games are so rampant that you could even see them on the streets:
Sony Philippines should reconsider their strategy. Not all Filipinos support piracy, one good example is the guys over at Pinoy-N.com that support Nintendo's original games even though their prices are 10x more expensive.

At least in Japan, you'll be able to fight The Lion War against a friend.
March 14, 2007 - Square Enix confirmed to IGN today that the upcoming PSP remake, Final Fantasy Tactics: The Lion War, will feature multiplayer battles. The two-player skirmishes will paint one team red and the other blue so you don't mistakenly attack your own Monk, and will have a set number of turns so as to prevent one player from simply avoiding the other forever.
Set to release in Japan next month, Square Enix unfortunately could not confirm a North American release at this time. The PSP is region free, though, so there's nothing stopping Tactics fans from importing the game and challenging a friend to a battle in Ivalice…except maybe all that darned Japanese text.
