Call of Duty Warzone Mobile Is Saying Goodbye

Barely over a year since it launched, Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile is now on its way out. Activision has officially announced that the game will be removed from the App Store and Google Play on May 18, 2025. After that, it’ll no longer be available to new players.

This came as a bit of a surprise, especially considering how strong the launch numbers were. The game earned $1.4 million within its first four days back in March 2024, and even in February this year, it pulled in nearly half a million dollars. Despite those figures, Activision said it didn’t meet their expectations when it came to connecting with mobile-first players.

They admitted that while bringing the full Warzone experience to mobile was an achievement, it just didn’t resonate the same way as it did on console and PC. And with mobile giants like PUBG Mobile, Garena Free Fire, and Fortnite dominating the scene, Warzone Mobile simply couldn’t break through in a meaningful way, despite having 45 million people sign up before launch.

I actually gave this a try myself, playing for a few days with Quira. It had some cool features, but we eventually found ourselves heading back to Call of Duty: Mobile, which still feels smoother and more complete.

If you already have Warzone Mobile installed on your device before May 19, you’ll still be able to play for a while. Matchmaking will stay online, and cross-progression with the console and PC versions still works. That means your progress and unlocked items remain in sync.

However, don’t expect any new seasonal content or gameplay updates. Activision has already disabled the ability to buy CoD Points or Black Cell in the game. You can still spend what you have left in the in-game store, but just a heads-up, there won’t be any refunds for past purchases or unused currency.

Activision is nudging players toward Call of Duty: Mobile instead, promising special rewards for those making the switch. That game has been around since 2019 and continues to enjoy a strong player base globally.

As for the Warzone Mobile dev team, their future plans haven’t been revealed yet, but they’ve said they’re already working on new things behind the scenes.

It’s always sad to see a game sunset this quickly, but at least players still have a place to go if they want to keep that Call of Duty action going.
