The demo for God of War III is now available on the PlayStation Network. It is the same demo that was at the 2009 E3, so if you've seen videos of that, there is probably nothing new to see, except of course that YOU'LL actually be able to play it!
I am as of now downloading the demo and it's extremely slow, probably because everyone is trying to download it at the same time. Expect a very long download time at least for today (mine started with an estimated time of 80-90 minutes). You'll need about 2.7 gigs of space on your PS3.
Other notable new demos are Yakuza 3, which is the English version of Ryu ga Gotoku 3, and Heavy Rain, a movie-adventure type game from the makers of Indigo Prophecy (or Fahrenheit, depending which version you are familiar with). I have Ryu ga Gotoku 3 and the demo of Heavy Rain, and I can say that both games are excellent. I recommend downloading the demo of both.
There is also the demo of Darksiders, which boasts 90 minutes of gameplay! That's quite generous for a demo, I think. I haven't heard much about this game, but I will check it out (as soon as I free up some more space on my PS3).
Last but not least, there is the single-player campaign demo of Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. This demo (and the game) has been out for quite some time now, but if you have not yet experienced the wonderful awesomeness of this masterpiece (and assuming you have a PS3), there is absolutely no excuse for you to not try this new demo. As a gamer, you owe it to yourself to download it.

Globe Telecom, a leading mobile operator in the Philippines through its wholly owned mobile commerce subsidiary G-Xchange Inc (GXI), is partnering with BOKU, Inc., a global leader in mobile payments, to expand the acceptance of the Globe GCASH service internationally, the companies announced today. The deal opens the BOKU mobile payment platform and growing international merchant community to Globe’s GCASH subscribers.
By partnering with BOKU, GCASH extends its reach outside the Philippines to a global community of more than 1,000 BOKU merchant partners and a mobile payments community that covers over 190 carriers worldwide, allowing its users to purchase virtual goods from any merchant in the Boku global merchant network.
“The Philippines is one of the richest markets in the world for mobile payments.” said Rizza Maniego-Eala, President of G- Exchange, Inc. “Since its inception in 2004, GCASH has been the widely used mobile payment method for online purchases in the Philippines. BOKU’s focus on mobile payments, specialized team, large merchant base, and tier one investors makes them the perfect partner in providing GCASH subscribers with a rich new experience in mobile commerce, that opens up the opportunity to explore and purchase virtual goods from the vast international market.”
“This partnership is a perfect meeting of two companies’ visions for the way to pay in the future” said Mark Britto, CEO of BOKU. “This is a great model for mobile payments, enabling carriers to reach global merchants through BOKU’s network, expanding capabilities for online and physical purchases, while driving increased carrier revenues and reducing subscriber churn.”
BOKU launched in June 2009 and has seen tremendous growth in the last year. Over this brief period the company has developed direct mobile payments service relationships with over 1,000 game and application developers, including almost all of the top applications for virtual goods and currencies purchased on Facebook. BOKU’s mobile payment service, Paymo, is enabled across 190 carriers worldwide in over 60 countries, and reaches a potential 1.8 billion customers.

Belgacom International Carrier Services (BICS), a leading global provider of voice, data and value added services and G-Xchange (GXI), a fully-owned mobile-commerce subsidiary of Philippines’ Globe Telecom, have signed an agreement to expand GXI’s existing number of remittance corridors, using BICS’ HomeSend Remittance Hub.
The HomeSend service, created in partnership with eServGlobal, provides a mobile-centric approach to international remittance which represents a significant new step in mobile payment. It allows subscribers of any mobile operator connected to HomeSend to transfer money electronically via a cellular phone to a GCASH subscriber.
This new cooperation, therefore, provides increased choice and convenience for Filipinos living or working overseas when sending money home to their families and friends in the Philippines.
The first interoperability tests between GCash, the fastest growing mobile wallet service in Asia, and HomeSend, BICS’ mobile centric hub for international remittances, have been successfully completed.
Three corridors will initially be launched in the coming weeks, namely between Belgium, UK and USA, and the Philippines, but will be extended in the near future towards other sending markets with large numbers of overseas Filipinos.
Frederic Schepens, EVP Strategic Business Development at Belgacom ICS says: “This agreement is the next big achievement in the international remittance market, opening up the industry beyond the limits of existing proprietary networks and enabling consumers to send or receive money securely, instantly and cost-effectively, with the convenience of doing so using their own mobile phones”.
Rizza Maniego-Eala, GXI President says: “The affiliation of GCASH with BICS’ HomeSend platform allows us to expand our mobile remittance hub connections. This partnership enables us to ride on the global mobile remittance expansion of BICS, providing more money transfer channels for Filipinos living or working abroad.”
About BICS and HomeSend
Belgacom International Carrier Services SA/NV (BICS) is a leading global carrier of voice, data and value added services to over 500 wireless, wireline and service providers through sales offices in Brussels, Bern, Dubai, Singapore and New York. The company aims to enable global interworking across all networks, technologies and services. As a result of this approach and the joint ventures with Swisscom ICS and MTN ICS, Belgacom ICS is now part of the top 5 of worldwide wholesale voice carriers and is the world leader in data transit services.

Before you laugh this off, I'd like you to know that this game is actually pretty good. And for 1,800 Yen (900+ Pesos), it's a really good deal. But you better hurry because the offer is on a limited-time basis. It was on sale a few weeks ago, and I bought it then, but then the price went up a week later. Checking again today at the prices, I noticed they dropped it once again.
This game, believe it or not, has been reviewed relatively well, and it even won an award from Gamespot - Most Suprisingly Good Game of 2009. And it was pretty suprising considering that the first 50 Cent game, called Bulletproof, was terrible. I actually had that for the PS2.
I haven't played through the whole game yet. I think I am at the very end. But I can safely say that for 1000 Pesos, brand new, this game will not disappoint fans of third-person shooters.
In Blood in the Sand, you play as 50 Cent. After performing at a concert in an unnamed country in the Middle East (read Iraq), 50 Cent goes to collect his payment of $10 million, but the organizer says that gangs have stolen his money. In exchange for the cash payment, the organizer gives 50 Cent a priceless treasure - a skull studded with diamonds. However, on the way out, 50 Cent and his crew are ambushed, and the skull is taken away from him.
What happens when you mess with "Fiddy"? People die.
Yeah, ok, the story is pretty bad, and it gets more stupid as the game progresses. But that's precisely one of the things that makes the game so great. The story is so terrible, it's actually funny. Combined with Fiddy's crazy gangster bad mouthing (you get points for saying bad words after killing an enemy), this game is great fun.
Other things that make the game awesome are:
- The online coop function (like in Resident Evil 5) where anyone can jump into your game at anytime, or vice versa. - Satisfying gun mechanics. The guns feel and sound powerful. - The points system. You get points depending on how you eliminate enemies, and more points for killing streaks. - Enemy and teammate AI. Enemy AI don't just stick to one place and shoot out in the open. They will hide and change positions, and will try to flank you at times (though not as aggresively as in Killzone 2). Teammmate AI also rarely gets in the way, and will at times even attempt to flank opponents.
As for negative points, I really only have two:
- The cover system is flawed. You can get into cover behind some things, but not others. The cover system also integrates a system of jumping over cover, but for some reason, you can't jump over some obstacles, even if they are very low. Also, because the roll button is the same button as the cover button, you sometimes accidentally roll out in front of flying bullets instead of ducking behind cover. - No multiplayer deathmatches. Not exactly a flaw, but this would have increased the game's replayability.
All in all, for 1,000 Pesos, this is a great buy. Even if you don't like rap music.

ASUS continues to lead in high performance optical storage devices with a full range of top quality products, from mainstay DVD-RW drives to Blu-ray Disc combos that have become the standard for high-end professional storage environments. Powered by USB 2.0 connectivity, the new ASUS SBC-06D1S-U and the ASUS SDR-08D1-U slim-type external optical disc drives are designed to provide optimized reading and writing capabilities. Both are tailored to discerning users keen on award-winning design, meticulous craftsmanship, enhanced multimedia capabilities and environmentally-savvy operation.
Built to Thrill—Acclaimed Design and Enhanced User Experience
ASUS external slim drives are recognized worldwide for outstanding functionality and fetching looks. The SBC-06D1S-U sports the same progressive design philosophy that has garnered the company’s range of optical drives prestigious accolades, including the iF Design Award 2010, the Taiwan Good Design Product Award and the Taiwan Excellence Award.
ASUS brings together technology and aesthetics in a single product: sturdy construction meets innovative, diamond-cut shapes and the benefit of a classic stand design. As a result, convenient dual placement options help users save space while lending considerable style and sophistication to any work environment. The new drive even offers ASUS’ BluTuner, allowing for five levels of display brightness while reading Blu-ray discs or reading and writing DVD and CD media. These touches complete the exquisite experience provided users, whether at home, the office or on the move.

ASUS SBC-06D1S-U—Fastest Speeds and Innovative Video Enhancement
The ASUS SBC-06D1S-U external slim-type optical disc drive performs at six times the standard Blu-ray reading speed. It features True Theater High Definition (TTHD) technology, a pioneering suite of advanced video enhancements that delivers unmatched HD quality for DVD playback on PC-based home theater systems. The result is sharper video, significant decrease in background noise, and enhanced aliasing for a smoother image.
The ASUS SBC-06D1S-U also comes with the peace of mind afforded by comprehensive and flexible data protection. Disc encryption allows users to protect an entire disc or even individual files with a pre-determined password. Additionally, users can choose to hide files to prevent data from being tampered with.
The intuitive drag and burn interface that accompanies the new drive takes the hassle out of data backup and media storage. Extremely easy to pick up and use, the interface reduces what would traditionally be a six-step process down to just three easy steps.
ASUS SDR-08D1-U—Extreme Mobility and Environmental Awareness
The ASUS SDR-08D1-U presents an industry-leading slim design, offering advanced portability to users. The ergonomic top-loading design, inspired by turntables, constitutes a true space-saving piece of art. At the same time, functionality remains center stage, as the SDR-08D1-U keeps enhanced multimedia entertainment from coming at the cost of a huge power bill. It does so by utilizing the E-Green engine, which automatically shuts down drive activity when users leave the drive idle for two minutes or more. This saves energy and at the same time cuts on wear and tear, so consumers get a longer-lasting, peak performance product. Users can even track power savings via the included E-Green application.
The ASUS SDR-08D1-U also comes with the E-Media software routine, which boosts reading and copying performance. E-Media automatically detects the user’s needs based on the in-drive media, optimizing performance for each given task. Users thus benefit from significantly reduced spinning noise as well as faster copy speeds.
