Rui Shido, Former Child Star Yuuri Rukawa, Set to Debut in JAV

Japanese social media has been lighting up over Rui Shido’s latest career move, and for good reason. Some fans might remember her as Yuuri Rukawa, a familiar face on kids’ TV shows years ago. Now, after disappearing from the public eye for a while, she’s back with a headline-grabbing announcement: she’s making her debut in the adult video industry.

Born in 1999, Rui started acting at just 8 years old. By the age of 11, she was already a regular on Himitsu no Chika Rando, an educational program on NHK. But as she grew older, she chose to leave showbiz behind and focus on her studies. Eventually, she took on the role of a prep school teacher, a far cry from the lights and cameras she grew up with.

That chapter, however, wasn’t without complications. Online chatter suggests that some of her male students made inappropriate remarks about her body, which reportedly made the teaching environment uncomfortable for her. While nothing was officially confirmed, those experiences may have influenced her decision to walk away from the profession altogether.

By 2023, she returned to the public sphere, not as an actress this time, but as a gravure model. She adopted a new name, Rui Shido, and appeared in bikini spreads for FRIDAY magazine, a publication well-known for spotlighting up-and-coming talents in modeling and entertainment.

Two years later, on March 13, 2025, Rui announced that she was stepping away from gravure modeling. Fans were quick to speculate about what was next. Not long after, she confirmed the rumors: she would be debuting in adult films, with her first project produced by Muteki, a company famous for working with celebrities and ex-idols transitioning into AV.

I used to cover JAV news here on GameOPS before the site went on hiatus. Writing about it again brings a bit of nostalgia, especially since JAV updates were once one of the biggest sources of Google search traffic. I remember having fun writing about Ebisu Muscats, Sora Aoi, and Tina Yuzuki (Rio). Rui Shido’s story adds to that rare collection of career shifts, moving from child actress to teacher, then model, and now JAV performer. 

Reactions have been mixed. Some longtime fans have voiced disappointment, while others seem curious and supportive. So far, only teaser photos in swimsuits have been released, but the full film (TEK-102) is set to drop in June, and you can bet it’ll get a lot of attention when it does.
