Actor Jonathan Joss, Known for King of the Hill and Cyberpunk 2077, Fatally Shot in Texas
Jonathan Joss, a talented actor recognized for his voice work in King of the Hill and appearances in major video games like Red Dead Redemption and Cyberpunk 2077, tragically lost his life in a shooting incident in San Antonio, Texas. He was 59.
According to reports, the incident happened near the site of Joss’s former home, which had burned down earlier this year. Local authorities say a confrontation with a neighbor ended in gunfire. Joss was shot several times and died at the scene. The suspect, identified as Sigfredo Alvarez Ceja, was caught shortly after trying to flee the area.
While police haven’t confirmed a motive, Joss’s husband, Tristan Kern de Gonzales, said this was not a random act of violence. He believes it was a targeted hate crime, claiming the couple had been subjected to harassment and threats from neighbors for years due to their relationship.
In a statement, de Gonzales described the terrifying moment. The couple had gone to the property to check their mail when they discovered disturbing items left at the site, including the skull and harness of one of their dogs who died in the house fire. Overcome with emotion, they began to grieve, only to be confronted by a man hurling homophobic slurs. The suspect then allegedly pulled a gun and fired. De Gonzales said Joss pushed him out of harm’s way, saving his life.
Although earlier statements by Joss suggested the house fire may have been caused by a barbecue grill used indoors during a winter cold spell, the couple had also reported threats about the house being set on fire, threats they felt were never taken seriously.
Joss had a diverse career in film, television, and video games. He voiced John Redcorn in over 30 episodes of King of the Hill, and made guest appearances in shows like Ray Donovan, Tulsa King, Parks and Recreation, and ER. His gaming credits included standout titles like Days Gone, Wasteland 3, and Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty.
His legacy spans decades of work across different media, and he had recently completed voice recordings for the King of the Hill reboot set to debut on Hulu this August.
Jonathan Joss leaves behind not just a rich body of work but a powerful reminder of how prejudice and violence still haunt many communities.
