UPDATE (10/14/2009): GameOPS Donation Drive for Barangay Sta. Lucia in Novaliches, Quezon City

Barangay Sta. Lucia in Novaliches, Quezon City was one of the hardest hit areas in Metro Manila due to Typhoon Ondoy (Ketsana). Over 1000 families have been affected, some lost their house and vehicles, some lost their pets, and a handful even lost one or more of their family members.

If you've been watching the news early this week, they're featuring people mostly from exclusive villages. These people are rich compared to the people living in Barangay Sta. Lucia - Novaliches, Quezon City. I know people on these exclusive villages are also affected but compared to the people living here in Barangay Sta. Lucia - Novaliches, Quezon City, they can easily recover.

Most of the residents at Brgy. Sta. Lucia - Novaliches are tricycle drivers, vendors, etc. as per one of Fernando Gagelonia's reader said,

Bakit wala sa news ang Barangay Sta Lucia Novaliches QC?
Anim na ka-barangay ko ang namatay dahil kay Ondoy, daming nawalan ng bahay at kabuhayan but it seems that news is concentrated to rizal, pasig, cainta etc.
Parang no mention about our barangay.
FYI lang at sana maparating din sa ibang news group: more than a thousand families din ang naapektuhan sa area naming.
(Ang baha) more than 20 feet sa kalye. Yung house ko dalawang dangkal lang kisame na.
Paulit ulit kasi sa news yung ibang lugar and marami sa area na paulit-ulit pinakikita sa TV, radio, yun ang area ng mga mayayaman…malalaking bahay.
i know affected din sila but they can easily recover.
Pero marami sa lugar namin ang baka kulangin ang buong buhay nila bago uli maka-recover. most of them are labaNdera, tricycle driver.
Nakalungkot na parang even sa news parang binabalewala.

Lalaine accompanied Rocky, Glen and I yesterday when we visited the barangay to assess the damage. Lalaine asked for our help as her aunt and cousins lost their homes during the storm.

The house of Lalaine's Aunt, completely destroyed

We've talked to Dave, the SK president of that barangay and they really need food and medical supplies. We brought clothes donated by one of our friends, JR Aldana of Victory Liner, but they were not enough. There were DOH doctors and a truck full of Red Cross volunteers but the supplies they brought were also not enough.

GlaxoSmithKline Philippines (GSK) has already given us a few towels but these can only supply less than half of the people. I know there are other areas that have far worse conditions compared to Barangay Sta. Lucia in Novaliches, Quezon City so we decided to run our own donation drive just for the residents of this barangay.

We're targeting at least US$500 so we can purchase food, water and medical supplies. We're also accepting used clothing, canned goods (preferably those ready to eat), noodles, medicines (for: fever, diarrhea, colds, fungal infections, etc.), and personal hygiene (soap, shampoo, sanitary napkins, toothpaste, toothbrushes, underwear, footwear, cleaning supplies).

If you've already donated to the Philippine National Red Cross, please do consider donating again for the people of this barangay. Let's help them stand up and make a brand new start.

We bought additional food and medicine from the money we've collected and are scheduled to give them to about 150 families tomorrow (Oct 14, 2009) afternoon.

Google has compiled a list of relevant information about the disaster, including a volunteer-maintained map of persons needing rescue and a list of relief organizations accepting donations, so that more help can be provided where it is needed.
