GMA Network Inc. to Stream Shows on ABS-CBN's iWantTFC

In a move that promises to boost the global reach of GMA Network Inc., the company announced that its TV shows will now be available on ABS-CBN Corp's international streaming platform, iWantTFC. The partnership, which was disclosed in two separate announcements to the Philippine Stock Exchange, is set to take effect on May 1, allowing viewers in Asia Pacific, Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, and the South Pacific/Caribbean Islands to access GMA's international channels, such as GMA Pinoy TV, GMA Life TV, and GMA News TV, as well as some on-demand programs.

This collaboration is a significant development for both networks, given the challenges they have faced in recent years. ABS-CBN, in particular, suffered a major setback in 2020 when its broadcast franchise was revoked by the Duterte administration, leaving thousands jobless and a crucial information hub silenced amid pandemic lockdowns. Despite this setback, the network has been determined to regain its footing, and partnerships like this one with GMA are part of its strategy to do so.

For GMA, this partnership is an opportunity to widen its footprint internationally and reach a broader audience. While this is not the first time the two Filipino media conglomerates have collaborated (they are currently producing a teleserye together), this new development promises to bring more of GMA's content to viewers around the world. By teaming up with ABS-CBN's iWantTFC, GMA can tap into a platform that has already established a strong presence in the global market.

This partnership also comes at a time when the media landscape in the Philippines is undergoing significant changes. The scuttling of a landmark investment deal between TV5 and ABS-CBN in the wake of heavy-handed criticism from lawmakers allied with the Marcos Jr. administration is just one example of the political pressures faced by media companies in the country. By teaming up with GMA, ABS-CBN is demonstrating its commitment to finding new ways to reach audiences and stay relevant in an increasingly competitive market.

Overall, this new partnership between GMA and ABS-CBN's iWantTFC promises to be a win-win situation for both networks. With GMA's top-rated shows now available on iWantTFC, viewers around the world will have access to more of the best content from the Philippines. At the same time, GMA will be able to expand its global reach and connect with new audiences. In a rapidly changing media landscape, partnerships like this one are crucial for networks looking to stay competitive and relevant in the years ahead.
