Hunter Schafer Rumored to Be in Talks for Live-Action Legend of Zelda Movie
Fans of The Legend of Zelda have been buzzing with excitement since news broke that a live-action film is in the works. While the official cast hasn’t been revealed yet, there’s already a lot of talk online about who might take on the iconic role of Princess Zelda. One name making waves is Euphoria star Hunter Schafer.
Insider sources suggest that Schafer is a top contender for the part. It's not hard to see why. With her ethereal look and strong on-screen presence, fans think she'd be a perfect match for the beloved character. Many have been pointing out her physical similarity to Zelda, but it’s Schafer’s acting skills that really sell the idea. She's been praised for her role as Jules in Euphoria and has appeared in major films like The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes and the horror flick Cuckoo.
Back in 2023, when asked about possibly playing Zelda, Schafer seemed genuinely excited. She shared in an interview that she grew up playing the games and was flattered by the fan casting, saying it would be "so cool" to bring Zelda to life on the big screen.
Still, as of now, nothing is official. The production team hasn’t confirmed any casting decisions, and other names are floating around too. Patricia Summersett, who voices Zelda in the video games, has also shown interest in playing the character in live action.
Meanwhile, fans are also wondering who will play Link. One popular suggestion is Percy Jackson and the Olympians star Walker Scobell. Though flattered, Scobell admitted he’s unsure about stepping into Link’s boots, despite being a fan of the games himself. He’s played Breath of the Wild, and his dad is a longtime Zelda fan.
What’s confirmed for now is that Wes Ball, known for The Maze Runner series and the upcoming Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, is directing the movie. Nintendo legend Shigeru Miyamoto is producing alongside Avi Arad, with the team working under Oddball Entertainment.
The film is set to hit theaters on March 26, 2027. With a fanbase as passionate as Zelda’s, expectations are sky-high, and the casting choices will surely be under the spotlight in the months to come.
