Scottie Thompson Dashes From Court to Delivery Room After Ginebra Win
Right after helping Barangay Ginebra clinch a thrilling victory over Blackwater in the PBA Philippine Cup, Scottie Thompson had no time to celebrate. As soon as Japeth Aguilar nailed the game-winning shot at the Philsports Arena in Pasig, Thompson was already on the move, not to the locker room, but straight to his car.
The reason? His wife, Jinky, was in labor.
According to coach Tim Cone, the team kept the news from Thompson until the final buzzer to avoid distracting him during the tight matchup. “She’s delivering as we speak,” Cone said after the game. “We didn’t tell him during the game, they waited until it was over.”
Cone recalled how Thompson rushed off the court, barely catching his breath. “He literally went from here to there, then left and into his car,” he said, gesturing from the hardwood to the exit.
Thompson, known for his hustle and heart on the court, showed the same urgency and love off it. He and Jinky are now expecting their third child, a sibling for Scot Alystair and Schyler Austin. The couple decided to keep the baby's gender a surprise.
Despite the life-changing moment waiting for him, Thompson still managed to contribute big numbers before heading out, scoring 18 points and dishing out 10 assists. That double-double helped Ginebra improve to a 5-2 record in the conference.
It’s safe to say that Thompson’s Friday night was a win on all fronts, both as a player and as a dad.
