Security Bank Finalizes 25% Investment in Home Credit Philippines

Security Bank has officially wrapped up its acquisition of a 25% stake in Home Credit Philippines (HCPH), a major player in the country's consumer finance scene. The deal, valued at around ₱10.365 billion, is part of the bank’s larger push into the fast-growing consumer lending space.

The final price tag for the deal was slightly lower than the ₱11 billion initially estimated. This adjustment was due to changes in Home Credit’s net asset value between December 31, 2023, and April 30, 2025.

This move follows Security Bank’s announcement in November 2024, when it confirmed an agreement with MUFG Bank Ltd. to buy into Home Credit. MUFG’s subsidiary, Krungsri (also known as Bank of Ayudhya PCL), will still hold the majority 75% stake and continue as the controlling shareholder.

The acquisition also strengthens Security Bank’s ongoing partnership with MUFG, which began back in 2016. With the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas giving its go-signal, the transaction is now fully cleared.

Home Credit, known for its accessible financing solutions, currently serves over 11 million customers across the Philippines. The company specializes in point-of-sale loans, cash loans, credit lines, and added-value services like insurance and warranty packages. It also leads the POS financing market with a massive footprint of over 15,000 retail partner locations nationwide.

Security Bank President and CEO Sanjiv Vohra expressed excitement over the milestone, highlighting how this strategic investment will allow them to better support the evolving financial needs of everyday Filipinos.

For Security Bank, this is more than just an investment. It’s a step toward deeper involvement in consumer lending and a broader mission to make financial services more accessible for millions of Filipinos.
