Valenzuela City Goes Green with New Electric Vehicle Fleet for Police and Government Use
Valenzuela City is stepping up in the fight against pollution by launching the country’s largest electric vehicle (EV) fleet for government use. A total of 41 EVs have been added to the city’s operations, mostly for the police force, as part of a wider push for sustainability under the “Go Green Valenzuela” campaign.
Over the weekend, the city also opened its very first EV Charging Station at the ALERT Center in Barangay Malinta. This is just the beginning, with more charging stations already in the pipeline to support the shift to cleaner transport.
Most of these new EVs, 35 to be exact, are now being used by the Valenzuela City Police Station. The remaining six are assigned to other local government offices. With this move, Valenzuela becomes the first city in the Philippines to operate such a large fleet of EVs for public service.
The program is a partnership between the city government, ACMobility, and BYD Philippines. It aims to reduce dependence on fuel-powered vehicles while cutting down maintenance costs and carbon emissions. Mayor Wes Gatchalian shared that this investment isn’t just about new vehicles, but about securing a healthier and more sustainable future for the city.
These vehicles are not just eco-friendly, they’re also efficient. Each one boasts a 150kW motor, a battery that can go 405 km on a single charge, and fast charging capability that powers up from 10% to 80% in about 30 minutes. That makes them well-suited for the demanding needs of police work.
Backed by PHP 75.8 million in funding and support from Senator Win Gatchalian’s office, this project shows that green initiatives and public service can go hand in hand. The new EV Charging Station is just one of 13 city-owned locations being planned, with more stations from ACMobility also coming soon.
Valenzuela’s example sends a clear message, sustainability can be integrated into government operations without compromising performance or service. It’s a big step toward a greener, cleaner future for everyone.
