A Minecraft Movie Streams this June on Max

Fans of block-building adventures have something to mark on their calendars. A Minecraft Movie, the film inspired by the wildly popular sandbox game, will start streaming on Max beginning June 20.

For those who somehow missed the craze, the movie brings the pixelated world of Minecraft to life with a fun twist. This time, four oddball characters, portrayed by Jason Momoa, Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks, and Sebastian Hansen, unexpectedly find themselves in the Overworld. Luckily for them, Steve, a familiar hero to players and played by Jack Black, shows up to help them navigate this unpredictable landscape.

Since hitting theaters, the movie has smashed a few records of its own. It pulled in an impressive $313 million during its opening weekend, with nearly half of that coming from international audiences. By now, its box office earnings have climbed to a massive $951 million globally. No wonder Warner Bros. bosses Michael de Luca and Pam Abdy praised the project as a major win for the studio.

Critics, however, were less enthusiastic. Rotten Tomatoes only gave it a 47 percent score, but audiences didn’t seem to care. Families and kids flocked to cinemas anyway. Industry analyst David A. Gross summed it up best, saying that while reviews matter, a movie like this thrives on fans and word of mouth more than critic ratings.

If you didn’t get to see it on the big screen, now’s your chance to join the adventure from your couch. So get your pickaxe ready, because this movie is ready to be mined for fun on Max starting June 20.
