Call of Duty Is Still Headed to Nintendo, Just Not Yet

Fans of Call of Duty who are also loyal Nintendo players might be feeling a little left out lately. When the latest game in the series, Black Ops 7, was revealed, there wasn’t a single mention of Nintendo platforms. Naturally, that raised some eyebrows. Has the deal between Microsoft and Nintendo fallen through?

Not quite.

Even though there hasn’t been any official word lately, trusted industry insiders say the collaboration is still moving forward. Kotaku’s Ethan Gach shared that both companies are continuing to work behind the scenes. Microsoft also responded to inquiries with a short but clear message: it’s still happening.

Activision echoed the same thing when contacted by GameSpot, adding that the team is "committed to getting the franchise on Switch" and that updates will come once everything is ready to be shared.

This all ties back to the agreement made back in 2022, when Microsoft and Nintendo signed a 10-year deal to bring Call of Duty titles to Nintendo’s consoles. That commitment was cemented further when the deal became legally binding in 2023, around the same time Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard was finalized.

Now that the rumored "Switch 2" is reportedly in the hands of early users, it's fair to assume that Nintendo and Microsoft are still figuring out how to optimize the Call of Duty experience on the new hardware. Bringing a massive franchise like CoD to a platform that’s traditionally been underpowered compared to PlayStation and Xbox is no small task. But it’s clear that both parties still intend to make it happen.

So for those wondering if they’ll ever be able to play Call of Duty on a Nintendo console, the answer is yes. It’s just taking a bit longer than expected.
