Nightmare Frontier: A New Kind of Tactical Horror Adventure Hits Early Access

Players hungry for tactical battles and eerie thrills have a fresh nightmare to conquer. Nightmare Frontier, from the team behind Hard West 2 and Rogue Waters, has just crept into Early Access on Steam, bringing a chilling twist to the extraction looter genre.

Set in an alternate 19th-century America, the game paints a grim frontier twisted by an unexplained force that tears at reality itself. The once-wild West is now home to horrifying creatures called Dreadweavers, each embodying human fears in monstrous forms. Arachnophobes beware: one of these nightmares is a six-shooter spider that stalks the shadows.

Players step into the boots of a fearless ringleader guiding a team through this haunted town. Every choice matters. Do you press deeper into danger for rare loot, or cut your losses and retreat before the Nightmare devours you? This constant push and pull is at the heart of Nightmare Frontier’s tactical, turn-based combat.

Ice Code Games, known for crafting intense strategy experiences, has blended familiar mechanics from Hard West 2 with new roguelite ideas. The result is a game where you push enemies around, chain attacks, and adapt your tactics as the Nightmare grows stronger. Early Access already includes four city districts to raid endlessly, 13 unique fears to confront, and tons of powerful gear to collect and upgrade with Nightmare essence.

The devs are counting on player feedback to help shape this ambitious project. According to CEO Mateusz Pilski, each squad member’s hidden fears influence battles in unexpected ways, adding another layer of tension to every fight. As the Nightmare’s power expands, so do the risks, and the rewards.

If you enjoy games that test both your courage and your wits, Nightmare Frontier might be your next obsession. It’s available now for $19.99 with a 25% discount during its launch period. There’s also a free demo if you want a taste before venturing too deep into the dark.
