Resident Evil 9 is Coming
RE fans, brace yourselves. After months of teases and speculation, Resident Evil 9 has finally been unveiled at the Summer Game Fest 2025. Titled Resident Evil: Requiem, the game is scheduled to release on February 27, 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
This new chapter is shaping up to be quite a shift for the long-running franchise. Geoff Keighley, the event’s host, described the game as a bold new direction, combining the franchise's signature survival horror with high-stakes cinematic action. That alone is enough to stir excitement among longtime fans and newcomers alike.
The trailer gave us plenty to speculate about. One striking detail was what looks like the ruins of Raccoon City, suggesting the setting may expand into a larger, possibly open-world environment. There’s even a glimpse of the Raccoon City Police Department, now in ruins, a chilling callback to earlier games.
But the biggest surprise might be the introduction of a potential new protagonist: Grace Ashcroft, an FBI technical analyst drawn into a disturbing investigation. She’s ordered to return to the place where her mother was murdered, and as the mystery unravels, she must confront not only the horrors ahead but also the darkness in her past.
The trailer teases an unsettling scene where Grace is strapped down, and a mysterious voice refers to her as the "chosen one." Is Grace really the main character this time around? And what about familiar faces like Leon Kennedy? Capcom hasn’t confirmed who else might appear or be playable, keeping fans guessing for now.
Capcom’s website doesn’t offer much more detail, but it does emphasize improvements in both technology and immersion, with a focus on richer storytelling and deeper gameplay mechanics. It’s clear they’re aiming to push the series into new territory while holding onto what makes Resident Evil so iconic.
While we've known for a while that a new game was in the works, thanks to hints during Capcom’s 2024 summer showcase and the recent celebration of 10 million players for Resident Evil 4 Remake, this is the first time we're seeing it in full form.
If the trailer is any indication, Resident Evil: Requiem isn’t just another sequel. It’s the beginning of a terrifying new era.
