Meet Veto: VALORANT’s Bold New Sentinel Who Breaks the Rules of Utility

Riot Games just dropped a game-changer. During the grand finals of VALORANT Champions Paris, the developers unveiled Veto, the newest Sentinel joining the roster. He’s not your typical agent; this one is a full-blown disruptor, built to counter abilities and force players to rely on pure gunplay.

Veto hails from Senegal and carries an unstoppable DNA mutation that lets him completely ignore enemy technology and abilities. On his battlefield, no fancy gadgets will save you, just your aim and your nerve.

A Sentinel Like No Other

Unlike traditional Sentinels that focus on defense through barriers or traps, Veto’s entire kit is centered on anti-utility. According to game designer Nicholas Smith, the goal was to give players “a stronger foothold on defense” without having to rely on retakes. With teams often throwing waves of utility during pushes, Veto is Riot’s answer to balance the chaos.

He also comes with a teleport ability that gives players a chance to reposition or fall back quickly. Smith describes Veto’s playstyle as “bold and adaptable,” saying that players can choose between being a solid defensive anchor or an aggressive playmaker depending on their team’s needs.

Veto’s Abilities

  • Chokehold – Throws out a mutated fragment that creates a trap, holding enemies in place while deafening and decaying them.
  • Crosscut – Deploys a vortex that acts as a teleport point, perfect for surprise escapes or clever repositioning.
  • Interceptor – Destroys incoming enemy utilities, including flashes, grenades, and other gadgets that usually clear sites.
  • Evolution (Ultimate) – Triggers a full mutation that makes Veto immune to all debuffs, while boosting regeneration and combat power. He can literally walk through Brimstone’s ult or tank a Raze rocket like it’s nothing.

Changing the Game’s Meta

Riot expects Veto to shake up how teams play, especially in utility-heavy site setups. His presence alone can make enemies rethink their approach, since using too many abilities against him could just be a waste. As Smith puts it, even when opponents know Veto’s ult is active, “it forces them to engage more carefully.”

VALORANT players can start experimenting with Veto when he officially releases on October 7, 2025. Riot also recently introduced Skirmish, a fast-paced mode that offers 1v1 to 5v5 matches in a tight, action-first map, perfect for testing new agents like Veto.

With his fearless personality and anti-utility gameplay, Veto might just become every duelist’s best friend and every initiator’s worst nightmare.
