MMDA and SM Team Up to Show Real-Time Traffic Updates Inside Malls

Getting stuck in traffic is already part of daily life in Metro Manila, so any small help goes a long way. A new partnership between the MMDA and SM Supermalls is trying to make things a bit easier for commuters by bringing live traffic updates straight into popular malls.

The project displays real-time footage from selected MMDA traffic cameras on screens inside participating SM malls. Shoppers and commuters can quickly check nearby road conditions before heading out, instead of relying only on apps or radio updates.

The first mall to roll this out is SM Megamall. The live feeds currently show traffic along key sections of EDSA, including areas near Shaw Boulevard, Ayala, Guadiz, and Santolan. These are some of the busiest spots in the metro, so seeing the situation in real time can help people decide when to leave or which route to take.

According to the MMDA, this setup is only the start. Similar traffic displays are expected to appear soon at SM Mall of Asia and SM North EDSA. The agency also plans to expand its traffic advisories beyond EDSA to cover more parts of Metro Manila.

The idea behind the partnership is simple. SM malls attract thousands of people every day, making them ideal places to share useful public information. By putting traffic data where people already are, the MMDA hopes commuters can make better travel choices and help ease congestion, even in small ways.

For SM Supermalls, the project fits into their goal of offering practical solutions that benefit communities. The company sees this collaboration as a step toward more tech-driven initiatives that support safer and smoother daily travel for Filipinos.
