SIBOL MLBB Women Take SEA Games Silver After Dramatic Finals
History repeated itself for the Philippine women’s Mobile Legends team as SIBOL once again came painfully close to SEA Games gold, only to see it slip away in the final moments.
Competing in Bangkok, SIBOL MLBB Women pushed Malaysia to the limit in a tense best of seven championship series. After trading wins early, the Filipinas found themselves in a strong position, taking a narrow 3 to 2 lead following a long and exhausting Game 5 that lasted over 20 minutes.
That momentum, however, did not last.
Malaysia refused to back down, answering with a crucial win in Game 6 to force a deciding match. Riding that surge, they controlled the final game and completed the comeback, leaving the Philippines with another silver medal finish on December 17 at Chulalongkorn University.
For SIBOL, the loss felt all too familiar. Just two years ago in Cambodia, the team also settled for silver after falling in the gold medal match, making this defeat another emotional chapter in their SEA Games journey.
The setback also spoiled a potential double celebration for the Philippines, as the men’s MLBB squad had already secured gold earlier in the competition. Despite the result, the women’s team showed remarkable consistency throughout the tournament, suffering their only loss in the grand finals.
Representing the country were Kaye Maerylle “Keishi” Alpuerto, Rica Fatima “Amoree” Amores, Gwyneth “Ayanami” Diagon, Sheen “Shinoa” Perez, Mery Christine “Meraaay” Vivero, and Clarisse “CLA” Cordova. Their silver medal run proved once again that the Philippines remains a powerhouse in women’s MLBB, even if the ultimate prize continues to be just out of reach.
