Retro Gaming Nights: Jackal

What better way to start our relaunch than to review one of the most under rated games ever in the NES collection ---Jackal.

Jackal is considered a pleasant surprise to most who played it for the first time. You can imagine, riding a jeep is not really under the cool category but this game changed all that.

Jackal actually contains cut scenes and the first cut scene can be considered a classic among several GameOPS staff. It contains the words:

“This battle will make your blood boil!”

So what do you do? You go past several terrains ranging from desserts to fortress looking for hostages who can upgrade your ammo. Make sure you don’t get hit or they run like crazy little chickens in all directions. Get them to a helicopter pad and you get to save their sorry little hides :D These things are actually easier said than done. I mean I’ve played this game since I was a kid and the difficulty hasn’t changed one bit.

I mean, I honestly believe the people who made the strafe function in videogames must have played this game and cursed that stupid grenade that you need to manually aim o.o

Is it really that hard? You bet your @ss. Is it good? This game made riding a jeep cool, a jeep for godsakes!

Aside from gameplay any other plus? Listen to the first 5 minutes of the game and you’ll realize how good it is.

So…did I finish the game? Oh hell yeah!!!!

Did I cheat? … Did I already say how good this game is? I mean this game is worth blowing the dust out of your NES man and beats the crap out of half the games out in the market today.

So for all you purist out there who haven’t played Jackal before, take time to try it out. I promise you won’t regret it!

  1. I also finished playing this game. There's a learning curve here that you have to figure out if you want to advance your level. Quite difficult but very enjoyable.
