LG Is Shutting Down Android Update Servers

It’s been a few years since LG decided to leave the smartphone market, but for many Filipino users, their old LG phones are still around, maybe as a backup device, a hand-me-down, or just sitting quietly in a drawer somewhere. But soon, even those last bits of software support will officially come to an end.

LG recently confirmed that starting June 30, 2025, all software update servers for their Android phones will be shut down. That includes over-the-air (OTA) updates, the LG Bridge PC tool, and even the app update center. In short, after this date, you won’t be able to update your LG phone anymore, not even at a service center.

[Notice] Termination of mobile software service

We sincerely thank all customers who have always supported LG Electronics mobile phone products. Hereby, we hereby make the following termination notice for LG Electronics mobile phone software upgrade (FOTA), update center and LG Bridge. The following are the explanations:

> Termination of service: LG Electronics mobile phone software upgrade (FOTA), update center (App service), LG Bridge service (PC Tool)

> Applicable products: All LG Electronics mobile phone products

> Termination date: June 30, 2025 00:00 [Korea time, GMT+9]

After the termination of this service, software upgrade service will no longer be provided. If necessary, please upgrade the software before the termination of service on June 30, 2025. (The termination of service includes all software upgrade services including service center upgrades). Since the APP update service is no longer provided, the default APP deleted during initialization cannot be downloaded.

Back when LG exited the smartphone scene, they promised to continue supporting their phones with updates for a while. They even rolled out Android 12 to select models and committed to three years of security updates. But those three years have passed, and now the last remaining support lifeline is being cut off.

For Filipino users still hanging onto an LG phone, now’s the time to check for any final updates and install them while you still can. If your phone hasn’t been updated in a while, plug it in, connect to WiFi, and see if there’s anything available, once June 30 hits, that option will disappear for good.

And just a heads-up: after the shutdown, even apps that originally came with your phone and were accidentally deleted can no longer be re-downloaded. So if there’s anything you want to restore or update, don’t wait too long.

While LG phones were known for their quality and value back in the day, especially for budget-conscious Pinoy consumers, it's finally time to say goodbye to software support. But if your old LG device is still working fine and you don’t need the latest features, it can still be useful, just make sure it’s updated before June ends.
