For decades, Ross has been a cornerstone of pro wrestling broadcasts. He’s best known for his work with WWE, where he called matches from the early '90s through 2013. His emotional, passionate commentary became just as much a part of the experience as the action itself. Phrases like “My God!” and “He’s broken in half!” are forever etched into wrestling history, and have even found new life in memes and highlight reels across the internet.
Outside the ring, J.R. is a die-hard Oklahoma Sooners fan. Many fans will remember him proudly walking to the ring while the “Boomer Sooner” fight song played. That hometown pride has always been a big part of who he is.
Ross was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame back in 2007, and his legacy didn’t end there. Since 2019, he’s been part of the AEW broadcast team, lending his voice to a new generation of wrestling stars.
AEW quickly released a public statement in support of Ross, calling him a “valued member of the AEW family” and assuring fans that the entire organization stands with him during this tough time.
This isn’t the first fight Jim Ross has faced, and if wrestling fans know anything, it’s that J.R. has never backed down from a challenge. With his strength and the love of millions behind him, he’s not facing this alone.
