Anker Recalls Select Power Banks in the Philippines Over Battery Safety Concerns
Tech accessory giant Anker has announced a voluntary global recall affecting several of its power bank models, including units sold in the Philippines. The recall is part of the company’s proactive move to tighten quality control after identifying a potential safety issue with lithium-ion battery cells from one of its suppliers.
Anker emphasized that the risk of malfunction is low, but the recall is being done “out of an abundance of caution” to ensure customer safety. The affected models include:
- Anker Power Bank (10K, 22.5W) – Model A1257
- Anker Power Bank (20,000mAh, 22.5W, Built-In USB-C Cable) – Model A1647
- Anker Zolo Power Bank (20K, 30W, Built-In USB-C and Lightning Cable) – Model A1681
- Anker Zolo Power Bank (20K, 30W, Built-In USB-C Cable) – Model A1689
These models were flagged after Anker strengthened its internal testing and supplier audit procedures earlier this year. That move helped them detect a potential flaw tied to batteries from a single vendor.
If you think you own one of the recalled units, here’s how to check:
- Find the model number printed on the bottom or side of your power bank.
- If it matches any of the models above, verify your serial number or upload proof of purchase via the official Anker recall form at: www.anker.com/mmrc2506-form
Make sure to carefully double-check the characters in your serial number. Some letters and numbers, like “O” and “0” or “I” and “1,” can look nearly identical.
If your device is confirmed to be affected, Anker asks that you stop using the power bank immediately and hold off on disposing of it until further instructions are given. You’ll then have the option to request a replacement unit or claim a gift card valid in Anker’s official Shopee store.
For safety reasons, affected power banks must be disposed of at certified battery disposal facilities. These batteries should not be thrown in the trash, curbside recycling, or drop-off bins in stores, as they pose a higher fire risk due to the lithium-ion material.
Customers with concerns or questions can reach out directly to Anker’s support team through their website.
