Filipino PC Gamers Celebrate as Sony Unlocks Popular Titles Worldwide

Gamers in the Philippines finally have something to cheer about. Sony has quietly lifted region restrictions on some of its biggest PC games, giving Filipino players easier access to hit titles that were once out of reach.

Without any official announcement, eagle-eyed gamers noticed that God of War Ragnarok, The Last of Us Part II Remastered, Spider-Man 2, and the popular co-op shooter Helldivers 2 can now be bought on Steam in over 170 countries, including the Philippines. This means more players can enjoy these blockbuster games without having to jump through hoops or use workarounds.

This positive change comes after Sony faced backlash earlier this year for forcing Helldivers 2 PC players to link their Steam accounts to the PlayStation Network. Many Filipino players were affected because the PSN service isn’t fully available in the country. When gamers pushed back, Sony removed the PSN login requirement and even did the same for other games like Spider-Man 2.

Just this month, Stellar Blade launched on PC with an optional PSN login, thanks to its developer, Shift Up, convincing Sony to loosen restrictions. That decision paid off big time, as the game hit nearly 200,000 players at its peak during launch week. Now, both Stellar Blade and Helldivers 2 are freely playable by Filipinos without needing a PSN account.

While a few titles like Ghost of Tsushima and Until Dawn remain restricted, this is still a big step forward. Filipino gamers, who often get left behind due to region blocks, can now look forward to more hassle-free PC gaming.
