Nintendo Starts Banning Switch 2 Users Who Use MIG Switch Flash Cards

Nintendo has always taken piracy seriously, and it looks like the company is staying just as strict with its next-generation console, the Switch 2. Reports are surfacing online that players who use the controversial MIG Switch flash card are getting banned from accessing Nintendo’s online features.

For those who haven’t heard of it, the MIG cartridge is a custom card that lets people play backup copies of their Switch games, but it’s also widely used for pirated titles. A recent update made this card compatible with the Switch 2’s backward compatibility feature, which is likely what caught Nintendo’s attention again.

Screenshots shared on Reddit show an error message with the code 2124-4508. This appears after going online with the card installed. Basically, Nintendo is blocking these consoles from using any online services once it detects the unauthorized card.

Interestingly, a few owners claim they only used their own legally backed-up games but still got hit with the ban. One person shared that although their console was blocked, their main Nintendo account was still safe, at least for now. They expect Nintendo might tighten the rules even more in the future.

People on social media point out that no one should really be surprised by this. Using unofficial cards while connected to Nintendo’s network has always been risky. The MIG flash card first gained attention early last year, and since then, the gaming community has kept an eye on whether Nintendo would react.

If you’re thinking of trying one of these cards, it might be smarter to stay offline if you don’t want to risk losing access to updates and online play. With Nintendo keeping a close watch, Switch 2 owners may want to stick to official cartridges to stay on the safe side.
