Pinoy Developers Create AI Tool to Fight Fake News on Facebook

A new homegrown AI tool is making waves for its smart approach to fighting fake news on Facebook, and it’s getting recognition straight from Malacañang.

The tool, called Tunai, was built by a group of Filipino developers led by Bryl Lim from PocketDevs. What makes it special? It can detect misinformation on Facebook in real-time, check the facts, and even guide users to credible sources. It’s like having your own digital watchdog while you scroll through your feed.

Malacañang is applauding this innovation, especially since it supports President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s push to protect Filipinos from the growing threat of online disinformation. Claire Castro, a press officer from the Palace, shared that Tunai reflects the administration’s ongoing efforts to keep the internet a safe space for everyone, especially for people in rural areas who are more vulnerable to misleading content.

Tunai earned top honors during the OpenGov Hackathon on May 22, 2025, beating out 17 other teams. The competition was organized by the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and the Department of Budget and Management (DBM).

DICT Secretary Henry Aguda didn’t hold back on praise, calling Tunai a “world-class innovation of Filipino talent.” And it’s easy to see why. The tool isn’t just smart, it’s timely, offering real solutions in a time when fake news can spread like wildfire with just one click.
