Mayor Isko Orders Meta to Return Control of Manila PIO Facebook Page
In a move to secure the city's official communication channels, Manila Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso has instructed city officials to formally request Meta (Facebook Philippines) to transfer control of the Manila Public Information Office (PIO) Facebook page to the city government.
According to Mayor Isko, the page is still being held by former city employees who have refused to hand it over. This has raised concerns, especially since the page plays a key role in distributing urgent information during emergencies and disasters.
The mayor issued the directive during the first meeting of the Manila City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC), highlighting the need for immediate access to the page in case of crisis situations. He emphasized that the platform must be managed by the current administration to ensure real-time and accurate communication with the public.
Mayor Isko has named Director E-jhay Talagtag as the new City Public Information Officer, who is expected to oversee the page and manage the city's official announcements moving forward.
The city government hopes Meta will respond quickly to restore rightful control of the page, which remains a vital tool for engaging with the people of Manila, especially during critical times.
