LTO Takes Action Against Drivers in Viral Traffic Incidents
The Land Transportation Office has been cracking down on drivers featured in viral road rage and traffic violation videos, handing out penalties ranging from temporary suspensions to permanent license revocations.
LTO Chief Markus Lacanilao said these resolutions were carried out by the LTO Intelligence and Investigation Division and follow the administration’s “7-point framework agenda,” focusing on stricter enforcement and road discipline.
“Dangerous driving will not be tolerated. Resolving these cases quickly shows our commitment to accountability. A driver’s license is a privilege, and those who put lives at risk will lose it,” Lacanilao stated. He also encouraged the public to report reckless drivers, highlighting that community vigilance plays a key role in safer roads.
Some of the most serious cases involved tragic accidents where children were killed while crossing pedestrian lanes. In Pinamalayan, Oriental Mindoro, the driver responsible had their license permanently revoked and is now barred from obtaining any type of license. A similar case in Suyo, Ilocos Sur is awaiting official approval for permanent revocation.
Other actions include revoking the license of a motorcycle rider who threatened another with a knife during a road rage incident, and penalizing a driver caught drifting in Tuguegarao City in a viral video.
Less severe violations led to three-month license suspensions, disqualification of student drivers from obtaining licenses, and fines for minor offenses. These administrative measures are separate from any criminal cases that might also be filed against the erring drivers.
Through these actions, the LTO hopes to reinforce road safety and remind the public that reckless behavior behind the wheel carries real consequences.
