Malacañang Moves Against Spreaders of Fake News on President Marcos’ Health

The Malacañang Palace is taking steps to hold social media users accountable for spreading false information about Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s health.

The Presidential Communications Office (PCO) acting Secretary Dave Gomez said the Palace is currently gathering evidence to support a complaint to the Department of Justice, with hopes of filing it next week.

Social media posts have circulated suggesting the President is unwell, and some even questioned images from official government meetings, claiming they were edited or outdated. Malacañang has repeatedly dismissed these claims as fake news, stressing that the President remains in good health and continues with his scheduled public engagements.

This move follows recent actions by the PCO to address misinformation more broadly. Just last Tuesday, Gomez went to the DOJ in Manila to endorse complaints against the operators of a Facebook page spreading false claims about the country’s energy situation.

The Palace emphasizes that spreading unverified information can mislead the public, and authorities are now prepared to take legal steps to stop it.
