New Directors Take on the Long-Awaited Metal Gear Solid Movie
The long-delayed movie adaptation of Metal Gear Solid is finally moving forward again, this time with a new directing team stepping in to bring it to life.
Filmmakers Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein, known for their work on Final Destination Bloodlines, have officially been tapped to direct the project. The film is being developed under Sony Pictures, specifically through its Columbia Pictures label, as part of a new deal tied to the duo’s production company, Wonderlab.
For fans who have been waiting for years, this update is a big deal. A live-action version of the iconic stealth-action series, originally created by Hideo Kojima, has been stuck in development limbo since it was first announced back in 2012. Over the years, the project has gone through multiple changes, including a previous version led by Jordan Vogt-Roberts, who had a bold and unconventional vision for the adaptation.
That earlier version even had Oscar Isaac linked to play Solid Snake, the franchise’s legendary stealth operative. As of now, there is no confirmation if he will still be part of this new take.
Lipovsky and Stein shared their excitement about the project, describing Metal Gear Solid as a game that pushed storytelling in video games to new heights. They also expressed their enthusiasm about translating its world and characters into a live-action format.
On the production side, the film will be handled by Avi Arad and Ari Arad. The duo has experience bringing video games to the big screen, having worked on adaptations like Uncharted and Borderlands. Avi Arad also has a long history in the superhero genre, having once led Marvel Studios before Kevin Feige took over.
With a new creative team in place, the Metal Gear Solid movie seems to be gaining momentum again. Fans have seen this project restart more than once, so there is still some cautious optimism around it. Still, having directors officially attached is a step forward, and it will be interesting to see how they adapt such a complex and cinematic game into a film.
