This Creepy Japanese Pen With Live Parasites Is Freaking Out the Internet

A strange-looking ballpoint pen from Japan is going viral online, and people are having a hard time believing it is real. At first glance, it looks like AI-generated horror prop, but it is actually a real souvenir that contains live parasites floating inside a clear casing.

The unusual item comes from Kochi Prefecture in Japan and has been making rounds on social media after users spotted its eerie design. The pen has a transparent chamber where tiny live organisms, known as Anisakis, can be seen moving in liquid. These parasites are commonly found in fish and can cause food poisoning if eaten in raw or undercooked seafood.

Behind this odd creation is a local seafood business called Tada Suisan, not some fictional biotech lab. The company reportedly got the idea after seeing a social media post in 2021 where someone experimented with placing extracted Anisakis into pens as a joke. What started as a quirky experiment eventually turned into a real product after it gained unexpected attention online.

According to the company’s president, the pens are made using Anisakis taken from freshly caught fish like skipjack tuna. Because of this, production is not consistent. Some days they can produce around 20 pens, while other times there are none at all, depending on the fish supply.

The internet reaction has been intense. Many people compared the pen to something straight out of a survival horror game, especially fans of the Resident Evil series. Some joked that it looks like a corporate giveaway from a fictional evil lab, while others said it feels like something you would find in a creepy in-game document.

Even social media managers connected to the game industry joined in on the fun, pointing out how it resembles items that could easily appear in a horror storyline. The pen has now become a viral talking point outside Japan as well, especially among gaming communities.

Not everyone is amused though. The product has also sparked ethical debates online, with some questioning whether it is right to use living organisms this way for novelty items. The creator has also spoken out, saying the viral attention has led to reposted content and even some negative messages.

Whether people find it fascinating or disturbing, one thing is clear, this is not your typical souvenir pen, and it definitely leaves a strong impression.
