Featured Gamer: CM MeiYan
2009 is long gone and though we have had a rough ride towards 2010, it's a year worth remembering. 2009 was the year that showed the real "bayanihan" spirit of the Filipinos to the world, a spirit in which you loyal GameOPS readers shared.
Now that 2010 is here, let's start it right by introducing you to a GameOPS Certified Gurl Gamer. From Contra to Final Fantasy to Tekken tournaments, this gamer can surely eat porings for breakfast. Everyone, meet CM MeiYan of E-Games Philippines.
Could you tell us something about yourself? How old are you? Where are you located and what are you currently engaged in?
I'm the one who'll probably receive an award as the "Most Maingay & Hyper" in our office because they say I'm an extrovert and loud - literally and figuratively. I'm currently known as CM MeiYan or CM Bea in e-Games Philippines, and currently handing the ZXOnline and Runes of Magic Community alongside with our head of Community Management, HCM Ching, and with the rest of the e-Games Community team - the GameMasters.
I love all social networking sites - besides the blogs that I'm writing in for our company, I also have tons of homepage, Plurk, Twitter, Facebook, Friendster, Tabulas, Livejournal, Multiply, deviantART, etc. - you name it, I have it all~! I don't see myself stuck in just one place - be it in games, cyberspace, or in real life.
When was the first time you actually played a video game? What's the name of the game and game system? What or who made you play?
Contra! During the ancient times of family computer~! I just remembered the left-right, left-right A, B, A, B stuff for the lives. My cousin, Ian and I were close friends, and he's the guy that made me hook into all kinds of video games.
Do you own a video game console? If yes, what system? Was it your very fist console? What video game platform do you prefer? (PC, Consoles or Handheld)
Yes - Playstation 2 and PSP, and yeah, they were my very first console! The playstation 1 doesn't count because my elder sister owns it before. I prefer PC and PSP consoles - PC for hardcore and in-depth gaming experience and PSP for keeping me company during our out-of-town tours.
What is your favorite video game? Why?
I have to admit, I'm a Final Fantasy geek. I even played FF4, 5, and 6 (one of the older versions). This is because I'm a passionate, dedicated and true RPG fan even before online games existed.
How about a particular video game character, who's your favorite? Why?
Tifa or Rinoa (okay, don't make me choose! I like both!) They're both have strong will and yeah, they rock better than the guys in FF.
Do you play online games? What are your current and all-time favorites? Are you part of a clan or guild? If yes, can you give us some info about your guild?
Yup! I'm currently playing ZXOnline and Runes of Magic. For my all-time fave, I'd say Talesweaver - because it made me stick to it for a year and the challenge was heavy - because everything in the game and almost all of the players are Japanese. I was part of a guild before called Aphrodisiac, but currently, you can say I'm single in guild hunting. I prefer to be free for the meantime. But I do visit some guilds and be a member for a week or so... you can also say that I'm like an NPA / NPG. ^.^
If you were to convince a friend or co-worker to play video games, how would you do it? Would you do crazy stuff just to convince him or her?
For some reason, I don't want to persuade them. I'm the type of person who doesn't "push" a person to play or like a game. I'd prefer to just talk about it if they'd ask my work and my current hobbies - then it's up to them if they'd listen or would like to try it sometime.
Did playing video games make any difference in your life?
Way back, I never thought I'd see myself playing in an iCafe, or get hooked until 4AM in playing a console game, and I never even knew that this passion would lead me to a career. This may sound corny or a joke, but I thought a GM means "group message." Being a gamer and working in a gaming industry definitely change my life. I suddenly became serious, I gained motivation and initiatives in my work, and it even straighten my life back wherein I got married and even bought a house. There comes a time that usually people has this perception that gaming is harsh and may ruin lives of people - be it physical, mental, in work or in school. Now, all I can say is that I'm a living example that can contradict all of their accusations.
Do you have any personal video game related story that you can share with us?
They say girl gamers cannot enter or even make it to a tournament. I got into the Tekken tournament in Robinsons Galeria before, and I made it to the semi-finals. I may not won, but meeting tons of gamers and the ones who congratulated me changed this once-quiet-and-shy girl into a very loud and proud dedicated girl gamer.
Have you ever bought (or played) a pirated copy of a video game?
A few times way back because I don't have enough to buy an original. XD~
Any last message you wish to impart to our readers?
Don't be afraid to break beyond boundaries and take risks. You'll never know what you've been missing all this time.
Any greetings and link-love to your friends?
Big hugs and loves to e-Gamer Girls club, the ZXOnline & Runes of Magic players, the Techie & Community GameMasters of e-Games, and my hubby~ xoxo! Don't forget to visit my soon-to-be-launched website: bealeecious.com ^_^
