Pilipinas Shell and Shell Energy Philippines Sign Deal to Deploy Electric Vehicle Charging Stations

Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corp and Shell Energy Philippines have signed a tripartite deal with the Department of Energy for the deployment of electric vehicle charging stations powered with renewable energy. The agreement aims to conduct a pilot study of electric vehicle chargers supplied by renewable energy sources such as solar. This move is in line with the Philippine Energy Plan 2020-2040 for the transition towards clean energy fuels and technologies.

Shell has launched its first Shell Recharge site in Shell Mamplasan, which is 100% powered by a renewable energy mix of solar and hydro. Under the agreement, Shell will deploy more Shell Recharge electric vehicle charging stations powered by renewable energy from SEPH. Data gathered in the pilot will serve as a benchmark for the development and rollout of the Shell Recharge EV charging network, as well as provide recommendations to DOE for the EV industry.

This is a significant step in the country's energy transition towards a more sustainable and inclusive future. With the government's implementation of the Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act (EVIDA), the deployment of electric vehicle charging stations will accelerate the development, commercialization, and utilization of EVs in the country.
