Charging the PM10 battery is easy; all you need to do is use the provided micro USB cable to connect the unit to a USB port on your computer. While charging, you'll see a faint blinking blue light beneath the white plastic at the right top front of the curved end.

Taking a scan is also easy, and you don't need a cable or smartphone. Simply turn on the device by pressing the blue button, hold down for 3-4 seconds and you'll hear a beep (it turns off automatically). You can hold the unit as shown in the drawings (between both hands or hold with one hand and the unit on your chest.) The metal contacts on this small device are sizeable, and you can watch the unit capture your heart beats. It takes a few seconds for the waveform to stabilize, then start recording for a 10 sec measurement. (You can change this to 15 or 30 sec on the computer application). It displays your heart rate as well.

Once the ECG scan is completed, it's replaced with a summary screen with its best guess about the recording. For a detailed review, you must download the software on your computer or smartphone. The PM10 connects by Bluetooth or USB cable to a smartphone phone or computer, and you can download the scans for review or printing. 

Reviewing your recordings is easy; you can select a scan from the list and press 'Review' to see the ECG. A Diagnosis column is on the right. You can print the scan, save it to your hard drive, or attach it to an email and send it to your doctor

However, it's important to remember that the PM10 is not a diagnostic device and does not replace an ECG by your doctor or use of a mobile type of heart rhythm monitor to capture the electrical activity of your heart (e.g., a Holter monitor or event monitor).

While the user guide could be improved, it is easy to record an ECG scan with the PM10. The PM10 does not require a smartphone or tablet to take scans, and you can observe the live ECG tracing on the screen. However, it does require software to review and print scans.
