Valve Unveils Upgrades with Steam Deck OLED

Valve has announced the arrival of the new Steam Deck OLED, set to hit the shelves on November 16. The upgraded handheld console boasts several improvements, including a vibrant OLED display, enhanced audio quality, and significant strides in battery life.

The standout feature of the Steam Deck OLED is its impressive 7.4-inch HDR OLED screen, a welcomed upgrade from the original LCD touchscreen. With slightly smaller bezels, this new model promises an immersive gaming experience while maintaining the same compact dimensions. The OLED screen also offers a boosted 90Hz refresh rate, although the native resolution remains at 1280x800.

Addressing a previous concern, Valve has equipped the Steam Deck OLED with a new 50Whr battery, marking a substantial improvement from the launch version's 40Whr. This enhancement not only extends gaming sessions but also includes faster-charging capabilities, providing an estimated 30 to 50 percent improvement in overall battery performance.

The Steam Deck OLED will be available in two storage configurations, 512GB and 1TB, priced at $549 and $649, respectively. Additionally, Valve is discontinuing the 64GB and 512GB LCD models, offering significant price reductions on the remaining LCD units.

  • 64GB Model: $349 (Previously $399)
  • 256GB Model: $399 (Previously $529)
  • 512GB Model: $449 (Previously $649)

Valve is also releasing a limited edition Steam Deck OLED, featuring a stunning translucent design. Exclusive to the US and Canada, this model comes with a 1TB storage option, an exclusive design carrying case, and a price tag of $679. While Valve explores potential colorways based on customer feedback, the standard Steam Deck OLED will initially be available in an all-black design.

Although the Steam Deck OLED doesn't boast improved performance, it brings exciting upgrades to the handheld gaming experience. With enhanced display, better battery life, and an appealing limited edition option, Valve continues to push the boundaries of portable gaming.
