When a Tech App Decides to Have Fun: Xpress and Tommie King Drop a Surprise Collab
Let’s face it, most tech companies don’t exactly scream “fun.” They’re usually busy talking numbers, user growth, and the next big innovation. So when a mobility app like Xpress Super App chooses to step away from the usual corporate script and partner with a hip-hop artist just to create something cool? That’s unexpected — and honestly, refreshing.
That’s what happened when Xpress Super App teamed up with Tommie King, a Filipino-loving rapper originally from East Atlanta, to release a music video titled “Palihim.” Set in the streets and neon corners of Manila, the video dropped globally on July 11 and has been gaining traction ever since.
The collab wasn’t about product placement or brand promotion. Instead, it was rooted in something deeper, a shared respect for Filipino culture and a mutual desire to do something fun and meaningful.
Xpress, known for offering ride services through e-trikes, EV taxis, and mototaxis in Metro Manila, Boracay, and soon Palawan, has made a name by doing things differently. And this music video? It’s another example. A senior rep from the company even admitted that they just wanted to do something that wasn’t tied to KPIs or marketing charts. Just pure creative energy.
Choosing Tommie King wasn’t random either. With songs like “213” and “Gwapingz,” he’s proven he can blend cultures and sounds without losing authenticity. He also brings a deep appreciation for Filipino life, which matches perfectly with Xpress’ own slogan: “Pinoy Pride. Every Ride.”
In “Palihim,” Tommie brings his usual laid-back swagger and lyrical sharpness, weaving through shots of basketball courts, Manila street life, and late-night city lights. It feels raw, real, and most of all, joyful. It’s a vibe, and one that doesn’t feel forced. As Tommie shared, “They didn’t come to me with some scripted brand plan. They just said, ‘We love what you’re doing. Let’s make something fun.’” That kind of freedom shows in every frame.
More than just a promo stunt, this is a reminder that tech and creativity don’t have to live in separate worlds. A ride-hailing app and a rapper might seem like an odd match at first, but when the heart of the project is rooted in culture and connection, it works. And it shows that even the busiest industries can pause, have fun, and still stay true to their mission.
With Xpress expanding and Tommie’s star continuing to rise, this likely won’t be their last crossover moment. But “Palihim” sets the bar high,. and shows that when business meets culture with the right intention, everyone wins.
