Facebook Wants You To Pay If You Want To Share More Links
Facebook is rolling out another change that creators and small brands will definitely feel. Starting December 16, some profiles that are not subscribed to Meta Verified will only be allowed to post links twice a month. This applies to anyone using a professional profile or a Page, which means a large portion of creators, small businesses, and bloggers will be affected. At this point, Facebook is basically rationing links like it is 1945.
Meta says you can still drop links in comments without limits, and affiliate links will not count toward your monthly quota. Links that point to other Meta apps like Instagram or WhatsApp are also exempt. But for regular posts on your feed, you only get two chances every month unless you pay for the subscription.
Every month, the counter resets on the first day. If you did not use your two link posts, they vanish and do not carry over. Users who subscribe to Meta Verified can share more links because their quota refreshes on their billing date.
It is hard not to notice the direction Facebook is taking. In the past weeks alone, even Meta Verified publishers like Bilyonaryo and Rappler still got hit with bogus copyright claims. So the idea that Meta Verified magically protects everyone feels questionable. Yet here we are again, being nudged toward paying for something that used to be free.
Many users are calling out Facebook for charging creators while still collecting massive amounts of data in the background. The timing of this new rule almost feels like another way to pressure people into paying, especially for small page owners who share links regularly.
Whether this change will stick or spark a bigger uproar remains to be seen. For now, creators will need to adjust their posting strategies or prepare to pay for the blue check if link sharing is a big part of their content.
