NCsoft releases the first expansion to award-winning, subscription-free Guild Wars franchise, builds bridge to Guild Wars 2.
Bellevue, WA. Aug. 31, 2007-NCsoft® and ArenaNet® have launched Guild Wars: Eye of the North™, the first expansion to the Guild Wars® franchise of subscription-free, online role-playing games. Guild Wars players who purchase the expansion can access Eye of the North content through the multi-million-selling Guild Wars campaigns-Guild Wars, Guild Wars: Factions™, or Guild Wars: Nightfall™. The expansion also includes an innovative feature that allows players to take achievements they have earned over the years with them into the forthcoming Guild Wars 2™.
Guild Wars: Eye of the North, continues the subscription-free business model pioneered by ArenaNet. The expansion is now available at www.GuildWars.ph, as well as from retailers nationwide, for an expected suggested retail price of PhP2,200.
Eye of the North advances the story told in the original Guild Wars campaign, and is set in the unexplored area of the continent of Tyria. One of the highlights of the expansion is the Hall of Monuments, which allows players to preserve armour sets, pets, Heroes, and titles earned while playing Guild Wars, Factions, Nightfall, and Eye of the North, and take those accomplishments with them into Guild Wars 2. The expansion also contains a host of new features that will appeal directly to veteran Guild Wars players, including 18 multi-level dungeons, 150 new skills across all 10 Guild Wars professions, 10 new Heroes to aid them in their adventures, 40 new armour sets, and more items, weapons, and titles.
“We think fans will find a lot to love in Guild Wars: Eye of the North,” said Mike O’Brien, co-founder of ArenaNet. “Not only do we go back to the original Guild Wars lands and stories to wrap up plots and themes fans have clamoured to learn more about, but we’ve also built a bridge to the future through the Hall of Monuments. This will give loyal players a way to preserve what they’ve accomplished in Guild Wars over the past two years, and reclaim the legacy of their favourite characters in Guild Wars 2.”
The Guild Wars franchise recently surpassed four million units sold and is one of the most popular and critically acclaimed online role-playing game series of all time. Guild Wars 2 is expected to go into public beta in the second half of 2008.

Follow-up to what might the Nokia's iPhone killer phone will look like, Sorry guys, still no info yet. UPDATE: Nokia has confirmed that this demo is strictly for the UI, not the device: the hardware is not real and the LCD's images are overlaid.
Gizmodo have discovered a 2001 controller prototype called GyroPod for Nintendo. It showed a detachable one-handed motion sensing controller from Gyration.
If you are a serious Nintendo fan, you know that Gyration is a company that holds most of the best motion-sensing patents. Nintendo licensed a number of those patents from Gyration in 2001, and brought the company on board that year to develop a one-handed controller. (Nintendo even became an investor in Gyration, which is now owned by Thomson.)

Does this mean we'll get Sony and Nintendo to launch the PS3, PSP, Wii, and DS here in the Philippines? The Philippines is part of the upcoming conference that will be held in Singapore this September. Source
Love Nintendo's Family Computer and guitars? Have lots of spare time? If you answered yes to both questions, head over to this site for the complete tutorial on how to make your own Family ComGuitar. :~)
Remember those cheap water games our moms used to buy us when we're still kids? Well apparently, those toys are still being manufactured. This time, instead of boring looking cases, they're now housed on a case that resembles a Nintendo DS.
Very simple toy. Just press the button to generate some bubbles and get the coin, bricks, rings, or whatever is inside to a pole or hole. If you want to get electronic, then grab yourself one of this mini DS-like brickgame called Revolve Game or simply RG. Don't expect to play 3D games though. They're similar to those brickgames sold a few years back that includes 20+ brick based games (racing, pong, tetris, etc.)
They also come in different colors! The RG costs 580 Yen or roughly 237 Philippine Pesos at rakuten.co.jp
And of course, the ever popular (and crappy) Neo Double Games that was made popular by Dr. Ashen. I think this crap has a "Lite" version. Haven't seen one yet here. May I'll drop by at 168 Mall tomorrow. :~)
Get Half Life 2, use a level editor, copy Super Mario Bros. music and textures, add a little sugar and spice, mix... *poof* You have created a Super Mario Bros. FPS game.
Think of Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy and .hack, mix it and you'll have Brave Story: New Traveler. Pardon for comparing this game to these 3 top ranking games but this is the reason I like this game. A boy from another world using a sword that upgrades every now and then sounds like Kingdom Hearts to me. The multi racial concept (kitkin, waterkin, err goatkin?) and cinematic cut scenes sounds Final Fantasy to me, and finally the cross between the Anime / Novel and the Video Game is oh so .hack to me. You see, this makes this game a solid RPG. You get to collect tons of stuff and "Dark Arms" also known as ultimate weapons, You solve sub quests and battle birdbrawls using your captured goalfinch. There are lots and lots of things to do here and the battle system although menu driven is full of action. The only downside of this game is that random battles occur frequently and oddly enough, you cannot save on the world map. but overall this is one solid RPG
Jeanne D'Arc and Dragoneer's Aria, both are good role playing game, were released last August 21, 2007. Jeanne D'Arc is a strategy RPG and Dragoneer's Aria is a dungeon crawling RPG similar to Blade Dancer.

I had to ask my mom to translate this one. Maria Ozawa said that she's been playing Donkey Kong the whole day and it's bad since she has work tomorrow but she's happy though. These girls would give Captain N a run for his money.
Zelda, anyone?
Maria Ozawa's classic pink Nintendo DS lite
Nintendo should consider entering the lingerie business...
Can't buy that Nintendo DS lite you always wanted? You can dream on this pencil case from J-list. More pics after the jump
Do you live, eat, sleep and dream Nintendo DS? Now you can study Nintento DS with cool Nintendo DS stationery. This tin pencil case is based on the DS Lite and actually opens up just like the real thing, revealing a faux screen inside! With all the details, like on off switch, buttons, lock, etc, this is exactly like the DS Lite except in an pencil case form. 4.25" x 8" and 1" long, this is made by Showa Note and is an official Nintendo product -- not a parody. The inside tray is removable for more pencil storage space below.
This girl is sooo in-love with her mac she made a song about it. Lyrics after the jump (adapted from James Blunt's You're Beautiful)
My Mac is brilliant. 12″ Powerbook But I went to the Apple Store just to take a look I mean I love my little G4 It's done so good I say But I saw the big Mac Pro and the 24 inch display
You're beautiful, you're beautiful, you're beautiful it's true The interface is such pretty taste And I don't know what to do Cause I'll never be with you
Yes it caught my eye and I can't help but sigh I could see that this processor would just fly And I don't think that I'll see it again But we shared a moment that would last til the end
You're beautiful, you're beautiful, you're beautiful it's true The interface is such pretty taste And I don't know what to do Cause I'll never be with you
We'll go international for this installment of GameOPS' Pirates 'R Us.
A well known Mexican Shopping mall has been selling NES (Family Computer) knock-offs bearing the name X-GAME 360 and PowerStation 3. The X-Game 360 even has a matching cheap XBOX 360 boxart.
The package sells for about $28 each.
"guys over at mexicanxbox.com must be furious because of this expose reaching other websites... oh noes!" - Alvin (GameOPS USA Contributor)
According to the press release from Nintendo of America, Mexican authorities have confiscated 15,000 counterfeit Nintendo products from a market in Guadalajara, Mexico.
August 17 2007 - Mexican authorities conducted raids today against 12 alleged distributors of counterfeit Nintendo® products in a major "fayuca" (contraband) market in Guadalajara. Authorities seized 15,000 counterfeit Nintendo products, including 4,500 counterfeit Wii™ game discs.
The Guadalajara raids follow other Nintendo actions in Mexico during the past few months. Last month, Nintendo worked with customs agents to stop a shipment of more than 5,500 counterfeit Nintendo products entering Manzanillo, exported from China. Prior to that, Nintendo assisted local authorities in a raid of the San Juan de Dios market in Guadalajara, where 23 stores were shut down and more than 56,000 counterfeit Nintendo products were confiscated, including 11,000 counterfeit Wii discs.
"Mexico is Nintendo's largest market in Latin America, where the problem of video game piracy is widespread," said Jodi Daugherty, Nintendo of America's senior director of anti-piracy. "Since January, Nintendo has worked with law enforcement agencies worldwide to seize 100,000 counterfeit Wii games."
Earlier this month, U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement agents executed 32 federal search warrants in 16 states as part of an investigation into the alleged sale and distribution of illegal Wii modification chips designed to circumvent the security embedded in the hardware and allow users to play counterfeit Wii software.
Nintendo and its developers and publishers lost an estimated $762 million in sales in 2006 due to piracy of its products.
If you haven't heard it yet, some guys got irked when our Wii-GameCube article reached GamePro. One reasoned that our article could have affected how Microsoft, Nintendo, and other companies would deal with gamers in the Philippines. Blocking of credit cards, IPs, and racial discriminations are just the few effects our article has "supposedly" caused...
Posted by AngelsCircle
If you haven't realize it yet? Our gaming is affected by that article. Microsoft block our locally issued credit card in buying in xbox live marketplace and our IP are recognized already to be block in downloading video medias because they do not trust us anymore. That article reaching gamepro website will have an impact on Wii gamers using their credit card to pay for Virtual Games downloadable and other things an ordinary Nintendo Gamers usually have.
How many gamers in xbox live will have a negative feedback on their gamertags once the other foreign players learned they are filipinos because they have bad impression of us because some articles like that stating we are modders and we are reverse engineer even most of us are not? An article like that has a greater impact against xbox gamers locally than those of Nintendo gamers because of the online persecution are extended thru audio means also in xbox live.
Damage has been done and all of us has to live with it now, Another nail to our crosses and another nail for the coffin of our gaming recognition with Halo 3 is coming to the xbox and more online games coming for the Nintendo with our country is listed as one of the location that can be chosen as seen in Pokemon Battle Revolution but all of that will hang in balance after that articles impact.
Well this raid in Mexico doesn't affect my relations with my Mexican online buddies, and neither should yours. Regarding the blocking of credit cards, companies have been doing this before. Not just Microsoft. Heard or PayPal?
Game companies know how rampant piracy is in Asia, and our simple article wouldn't affect their decisions if they wanted to give official support to Philippine gamers or not. Nintendo knows how rampant piracy is in Mexico, so why do they still offer official support there?
A few hours ago, my father received a text message from someone he don't know. The SMS sender is asking my father to give him/her 8 pesos worth of prepaid credits because of some important thing he/she has to say. Here's the actual SMS:
meron ako importante sasabihen sayo di na ako makaka reply call ka nalang or share a load 8peso e2 new number ko,
My father texted the number using Globe's Text-Back-Mo-Libre-Ko service to ask who he/she is and so he/she could reply for free. The message sender didn't reply. I just told my father to wait for the reply since this might be one of those scams.
Just a few minutes ago, I received the exact SMS (yes, even the comma at the end of the message). My number and my dad's mobile number is almost the same, only the last 2 digits are different. If this person has no more credits, why waste his/her precious peso and ask me to give him/her 8 pesos? And why send the exact message to both of us? Scam artist alert. :~) BTW, here's the mobile number he/she used: +63(915)6006662... :~)

Another Transformers in the making? The Transformers movie is actually good in terms of special effects. But when it comes to making the audience feel they're watching a Transformers movie, the film failed... "5 stars motel" as Rocky would always say.
The Voltron live-action movie has been announced by Mark Gordon Co. and according to them, it's almost a closed deal with 20th Century Fox.
The 20th Century Fox-based production entity is close to a deal with the Mark Gordon Co. to adapt "Voltron: Defender of the Universe" into a live-action film.
Marks' take is described as a post-apocalyptic tale set in New York City and Mexico. Five ragtag survivors of an alien attack band together and end up piloting the five lion-shaped robots that combine and form the massive sword-wielding Voltron that helps battle Earth's invaders
Wait... Voltron in New York? Mexico? Five ragtag survivors of an alien attack? Hey something's not right here! Unless this is a prequel to the original storyline of the Lion Voltron.
"From days of long ago, from uncharted regions of the universe, comes a legend. The legend of Voltron: Defender of the Universe. A mighty robot, loved by good, feared by evil. As Voltron's legend grew, peace settled across the galaxy. On Planet Earth, a Galaxy Alliance was formed. Together with the good planets of the Solar System, they maintained peace throughout the universe until a new horrible menace threatened the galaxy. Voltron was needed once more. This is the story of the superforce of space explorers. Specially trained and sent by the alliance to bring back, Voltron: Defender of the Universe."
Oh well... another of our childhood memories set to be destroyed...
This is possibly the first iPhone in the Philippines to work on a local network. We earlier posted a link to the procedure to clone your current SIM card to work with the Apple iPhone and apparently, the method works!
So if you have some spare 35,000 pesos, head over to Yugatech's blog and order one. We're also accepting iPhone gifts :~)
If you are a fan of the "Tales of" series, this one's a keep. You can choose between a male or a female "descender" and interact with "Tales of" character. One of my favorite is Stahn, I remember him as the lead character of Tales of Destiny and that brings back memories of the Playstation days The game is basically a dungeon crawler / grinding type of RPG with button pressing to execute actions or special moves / spells, which is, the trademark of the series. The voice acting is great and the bg music really makes you feel the game. Spend lots of hours grinding or mastering techniques, collect armor sets or just cook to your heart's delight. Yes, you can cook, forge, refine, create stuff that can help you finish quests or even save your arse during a fierce battle. The only chip on this gem is the repetitive quests that will suck all your gaming hours. Oh well, overall this one's a solid RPG
After the successful release of C&C3: Tiberiun Wars last year, EA decided to have an expansion pack for the game to be release on early 2008. The expansion game is set in the 20 years of Command & Conquer history, taking players from the end of Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun all the way through 2050 (three years after the events of Command & Conquer 3).
According to EA this game will bridge the gap between Tiberian Sun and Command & Conquer 3, expand on what actually happened during the Third Tiberium War, and then take players into the future--after the events of Command & Conquer 3's story. The arc of this story is epic in scope and the chapters set just after Tiberian Sun will give longtime fans of the series something special.
No this is not part of the ongoing drama of the Philippine Blogosphere, it's more like of a sitcom...
Two of GameOPS' recentposts have spread throughout the intarwebs that it even reached GamePro. This prompted an "angry" piracy supporter to email and flame us. Rocky said just ignore the fool and just go on with our lives. But I can't resist to "stalk" this n00b since he/she mistook GamePro as GameSpot. We didn't even emailed GamePro to inform them about our post. Geez.
From his IP, I managed to verify that the hater is from the Philippines and is using a Plan1995 DSL service from PLDT.
Since the info I've gathered will take me no where, I decided to stop. Until several incoming links from a Philippine community of XBOX owners came in. You'll be surprised with the comments they posted on their forum. Their comments and my reactions after the jump.
It doesn't follow that simply because we're Filipinos, we will condone the actions of people who steal copyrighted materials, in this case... selling of p*r*t*d video games.
We used to buy p*r*t*d games, and that was about years ago. During the Famicom era. Why couldn't you accept that some people still prefer to buy legit softwares?
If you have been following our articles about piracy, we have clearly stated that these p*r*t*d games either came from China or Malaysia. We never said it came from the Philippines.
The harsh reality is, we're exposing the truth in our society and the problem with some of you is that you're afraid of change. Some of you cannot accept the fact that something of value to you might be lost just because someone is telling the truth.
I don't want to point fingers but the logical source of that email could have come from the forum above. The GameOPS Response-O-Matic form is located on our About Page. The link that the one posted on their forum is the link to our About Page. And the incoming links and email were just minutes apart. Go figure.
One member even welcomed me to the forum. I've been a lurker there since early 2004 and registered an account on 2005. Funny thing is, the person who welcomed me joined a year after I signed up. :~)
A few days later, the same guy who posted the link to our about page posted another link. It's an entry where we recommended EYO Sales for modifying game consoles for import games. He reasoned that the only purpose of modchips is for piracy. O RLY?!
Karlo even joined the discussion. When our conversations started to go nowhere, I asked:
MMM...KAAY.
Atleast one person remembered GameOPS,
Oh well, you can't please everybody. Another point for my prediction #2 for year 2007.
Quoting my friend Alvin, "only in the philippines! ...were posting an article is a big f*cking deal"
NekoMiMi, created DeSmuME that emulates Nintendo DS to your PSP. The emulation is kinda slow but that'll expected because it's an early version. Wait for updates and do hope that this project will reach greater heights. How to use? Rename your ROM to “test.nds” and place it in the same directory as EBOOT.PBP. Download it here
Note: Emulation has some legal issues. Nintendo states that it is illegal to download ROMs on the internet even you have a legitimate copy. You may want to extract the game image from your NDS game yourself but proceed at your own risk.
GameOPS does not condone the use of emulators and ROMs for piracy.
Nintendo of Japan just released a new add-on for the Nintendo DS. The device which looks like an optical mouse, plugs directly into the GameBoy Advance slot of the DS. It basically allows you to slide your DS on a flat surface just like a mouse. The device is bundled with a new game called Slide Adventure: Mag Kid.
The DS add-on retails for ¥5,800 (approx Php2,240). Better buy additional Pledge cleaners to remove those table scratches :P Official commercial of the peripheral after the jump
You have to admire the Japanese for their creativity on creating these gadgets. I can't recall the term they use for the weird gadgets like these that are not for sale. Anyway, this USB Necktie Cooler is different and is currently on sale for Y2,980 (approx. Php 1,151.67). I don't know if you'll look cool or look like a dork when you wear one.
Remember the time when PlayStation 2s were banned in Iraq because clusters of them might be used to launch nuclear weapons? Well, lots of PlayStation 3s are being networked as servers for the PS3 game Warhawk that will connect gamers around the world. The PS3 servers are being built by the SCEA IT Team. Source
This is probably the weirdest fable and children's novel I've ever seen in my entire life. A talking dog sh*t. How... cute. Created by Korean Jung-Saeng Kwon in 1968, Doggy Poo now has his own DVD!
Everybody has a purpose...
Once upon a time, a little doggy poo lived on the side of a road. He felt all alone in the world. He believed that nobody needed him for anything, and that he had no purpose in life. If only Doggy Poo had a reason for being, then he wouldn't give up on his dream to be useful to the world.
One day, Doggy Poo meets a lovely dandelion sprout. Will she explain his purpose in life? Will she help make his dream come true?
After the trilogy on the bigscreen, Jason Bourne is still unstoppable, now conquering the consoles.
The Bourne Conspiracy is an upcoming video game for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The game is set to be released in the summer of 2008. Developed by High Moon Studios, The Bourne Conspiracy is set to expand upon Robert Ludlum's character Jason Bourne, and immerse the player in a cat and mouse style espionage action adventure.
